Well its the last weekend of the year. Time to say goodbye to a year that was very eventful for me personally and eagerly anticiapte what 2001 holds for me and mine. But before it ends just wanted to reflect on 2000.
1. The year of the great y2k problem.
2. The year of the great election battle.
3. The year we almost got peace in the Middle East.
4. The year New York owned baseball.
5. The year a nobody Quarterback won the Super Bowl, playing for a team owned by a woman of questionable character.
6. Strange when you think about Elian and the Election, the year we discovered there was more to Florida than Disney.
7. The year Marino called it quits and the year Lemeuix showed that greatness can be an individual trait.
8. A year where no School Shootings made the news. That has to offer hope somewhere.
9. The year an American finally beat that Russian guy in Wrestling. That was the greatest medal of the Olympics IMHO.
10. The year my lawyer earned my total admiration.
Well it was one for the history books.

Personally a very difficult year but one in which many people have extended a hand to help us through our personal problems, and a sorting out when others who had the obligation did not help.
A year that saw scientific discoveries that barely made the news but will impact our lives in a big way as we age. Others that did not even make the popular news that will change the face of industry like a science fiction novel in our life time.

I have never been more happy to see a year come to an end.
Y2K, the biggest non-event ever.
2000, the year my heart got trampled more than I ever thought possible. Actually, it was just the end of a 3 year trample fest.
Bleah, petuuuuueeeeeeeeee, ick, ack, good riddance.

It's too much to hope, I guess, to consider this to be a manifesto?

The Year 2000 was challenging for us as well, but it showed us who are friends really are as well as strengthening our bonds as family and compadres.

2000:
1. The year 264,000 replied to tell Dan Glickman NOT to mess with our organic food supply.
2. The year I protested with kids my kids age in front of a DC goverment building (about organics), and was treated like a criminal for voicing my opinion! First time I was frisked, told I couldn't take my lunch into a hearing and that I had to leave my great signs outside with strangers. [That one backfired, however, because the kids held them up for the TV cameras, while I attended meetings..and they were tall guys
who did!]
3. After ten years Americans got a little picture of what scientists and college researchers are doing to our food supply & our wildlife. Still not fighting mad like our Europeans cousins, but some are getting there!
4. The year I took my identity back via the court system. I will never be listed as Mrs. Jake/Joe ___ again! As a genealogist this has always irked the heck out of me. I won't have to listen to some twit say they can't use a hyphenated surname because of space, so they will use the most important one...my husband's! It took 20 years for me to get my birth surname back and it was worth all $27.00!
A Happy New Year to all....and please use your keyboard to speak to your governments and newspapers. Let them know what you are thinking, as you do here. We are going to need it. LabRat4GMOS

krs/stusi/ - If you have nothing of substance why bother to post?
hummm I think I'll make that the end all reply to everything you guys post in 2001. Because the last three weeks have revealed that you have nothing of substance to contribute. Sorry but just calling a SPADE a SPADE.

speaking for myself-i was somewhat surprised to see no racial or religious references in your yearly recap. it was as though they were deliberately omitted. but as one's true nature eventually comes back out, your veiled racial signoff was not surprising. do you really think that no one besides yourself has anything of substance to contribute here or do you feel that those who disagree with you are all fools and bigots or both? perhaps if you get suspended from AW you could come back as Self-righteous1,as i understand you have some experience with multiple user identities.

networker,
Your comment to stusi and krs:
"Because the last three weeks have revealed that you have nothing of substance to contribute. Sorry but just calling a SPADE a SPADE."
is directly insulting to both of them, which is, as you know, a violation of the CGs. Further, your posts have a disruptive effect on our community.
Since you are already under a formal warning, your posting privileges are suspended. If you wish to appeal this suspension, please email [email protected].

Hello Networker67
"6. Strange when you think about Elian and the Election, the year we discovered there was more to Florida than Disney."
Rather myopic in my opinion. Especially from someone who lists 4 sports related events or personalities (#4, 5, 7 and 9) in their 10 ten.
I would think someone who follows sports the way you do would have heard of Florida before this.
Three superb college football teams in the Hurricanes, Seminoles and Gators.
The 1997 World Series Champions.
And for one who seems to follow the plight of the disenfranchised and who knows what real Americans are made of I would think the Haitian and Cuban refugee situation would have placed Florida on your intellectual radar map long ago.
As for your lawyer earning your total admiration, I can only commend you on your change in attitude about what good legal representation can accomplish. Quite a turnabout from the opinions you expressed about lawyers on a bulletin board you used to frequent.
