So, when I am trying to reply to a thread sometimes it comes out ok but most of the time this is what I get:
tis whatppns when tp onm theads catevne re. thenothes ome ut o. wats tproble?
Really. That ^^^^^ made sense when I typed it.
I have just about given up the message board since it is so hard to type This does not happen when I type in Word, just when I am on the internet.[you would not believe how long it has taken me to type this!]
Ideas anyone?I thought it was my keyboard but it does not appear to be.

You actually see the words coming out garbled when you type in the reply box? Wanna try a post without revising to see what it looks like when you actually post?
I imagine if it were your keyboard it would be doing that in Word as well as on the net. Does everything else on your computer seem to work ok? Browsing on the net, etc? Nothing particularly odd going on except for that?
Have you tried shutting down and rebooting your computer to see if the problem persists? Running an antivirus and/or antiTrojan scan? Sorry, I really haven't a clue.
If you're doing Windows perhaps a Windows problem chat board might be the place to try to post if no one can help here. I'll try and see if I can find some links in my bookmarks. Or you could try a search on http://www.topclick.com

yes the wors come out garbled. This time it is not too bad. Sometimes it is every word like thoe in the last post. It does not happen everywhere I go but of course it happens in my email and here and ebay. It is driving me nuts! I have not scanned for trojans and my virus software is not up to date as we ran out of funds around here and could not afford to get it yt.When it is happening the worst everything seems "jerky" [scrolling etc] Know anywhere that will scan for virus for free? But see, this time, when I want it to garble it is pretty good. I do not get it. Could it be a windows glitch? But then why is it not happening in my word program?
So, I typed and typed and this time it only did this! ACK! Just like a kid! Take em to the doctors and they act like they are well!
I am sure next time I try to post it will garble up again!
Oh, I forgot, it ds not matter if I reboot or nt, same thing happens.
Can a ISP d this? I just switched to a new Free one. As you see I know very little abot these things.

OK, I'm not having luck searching through my bookmarks, but I can recommend a couple of good and FREE AV programs.
I just downloaded this one to use as backup to my Norton. It doesn't appear to monitor email but I wasn't particularly looking for email protection and I may have zoned out and missed it. I have Norton to cover email. It has live update feature which you can schedule along with the scan.
http://www.free-av.com/
You might want to check out Inoculate Personal Edition first as this may be more full featured and cover email as well:
http://antivirus.cai.com/
I think with IPE you have to go to the website and check for updates and download from there but it is FREE and from a known company.
There are some on site virus checking places but you'd probably be better off just downloading a freebie program.

You make sense to me everytime. Sorry I know that doesn't help you a bit. Just trying to make you feel better.

Shar, That is sweet of you to say! [ask my husband and he will tell you I never make sense!] And I DO feel better!
I am thinking it could be my browser so am now using IE5 to see if it will be better.
So far it seems to be. I will post a bit and see what happens.
edited so it makes sense.

Reviewing that last post I see that I should be a bit more careful where my fingers are if I want to see what is happening! LOL!

I don't know much myself, but possibly maybe it *might* be the ISP software either conflicting or corrupted although you'd think there would be other signs and problems if it were that.
Hmn. Process of elimination: download and run one of the freebie AV software which can't hurt anyway since you've been without updating and should get that taken care of anyway.
If nothing there, any chance you can borrow another keyboard to make sure there isn't anything wonky there? Just a thought, if it's easy for you to do. Otherwise may be a software problem of some sort.
If the problem only started soon after you downloaded the ISP software it may not be cause and effect but can you delete and reinstall the software to see?
I'm just throwing ideas out there since I'm pretty much at a loss but I don't know much anyway. Maybe some knowledgable person will drop by and lend a hand.

Siggy, Thanks for the help. Using IE5 seems to be helping. It has just occured to me that about this same time my Office 97 lost a lot of its functions. I didn't care as I never really use it anyway. I'll bet it is a windows glitch and it is somehow affecting netscape more than IE5 [which I hate to use!] But look! The typing mistakes in this last post are all mine and not a case of missing letters! This is weird to me and I am so inept when it comes to this stuff!
I will take your advise and download one of the anti virus software online. I suppose I have to uninstall Norton but since it isn't updated in MONTHS it probably won't matter!

Oh yeah and if you still have your IE5 browser set up files/app you could rerun that to reinstall and see if that helps.
It would be so easy if it was just the blinkin' keyboard. My sympathies. I've recently had some weirdness going on with my email app and ISP connection software. From out of nowhere it seems, but I can't figure out what set it off.

This problem has nothing to do with a virus.
Also it would be foolish to download new AV software when you already have Norton. Just go to the Norton site and update your Norton software. On your windows desktop right click MY COMPUTER , left click PROPERTIES,then left click DEVICE MANAGER, now look where it says KEYBOARD, left click the little + to the left of keyboard. If it shows the correct keyboard, then windows knows it's there. Sounds like either a bad keyboard or software conflict.

Oh you're using Netscape. Well you can reinstall that if there's a problem. But it sounds as if something else is going on if you've had other problems. Run some of the Windows system diagnostics and see if it finds anything.
Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Information and on the resulting window look under Tools for diagnostics. I don't suppose you have Norton Utilities but if you do use that.
By the way, you don't have to uninstall Norton. Just make sure it's all shut down and not working in the background.
I have Norton AV 2000 and just re-upped my subscription for updates for a year and it cost only $4. If it cost anywhere near the price of a new program I would have switched to one of the freebies for sure.
Best of luck.
Hi Shar! :}

Thanks Hardoutfit! Windows does recognize the keyboard and it does seem to be letting me type using IE5. It may be a Netscape problem? IE5 does seem to be acting a little strange but then I have never liked it and it knows it so it is probably rebeling! We have Norton version 5.0 from 1998! I let it run out last march as we had no money to pay for the upgrade. Will they still let me upgrade at this late date? I am sure it will be more than $4!
Siggy, That is good to know about not having to uninstall Norton.I will try your suggestion also. This stuff really bugs me! I hate not being able to figure out my machine myself!
Will keep checking here in case anyone has more suggestions! I will listen to any!

Hi Rawbunzel. Hardoutfit is probably right about a software conflict but finding it and resolving it may be a pain. Sounds though as if you've had some weirdness for sometime perhaps before your change of ISP? But the keyboard thing is after the ISP switch?
Symantec has an online virus scanner here: http://security2.norton.com/us/intro.asp?venid=sym&langid=us
(Don't be scared by the security scanner if you use it. If you want a firewall download the free ZoneAlarm at http://www.zonealarm.com/
Also here's the Symantec page on renewing virus definition subscriptions for virus updates and NAV 5.0 is covered. I don't know that it would cost more because you skipped a year or so but you can check it out:

Rawbunz,
You've got your keyboard language set to Bubonic.
If you can't fix it, change the keyboard or it could plaque you for a long time.

Gee, Thanks KRS! I knew it was a plague I just wasn't sure which one! LOL![or did you really mean plaque?]
Siggy, I did download ZoneAlarm a long time ago and I really like it! Great free program! I will check outthose Symantic sites. I figured a whole year behind would be too long! Thanks for checking!

(edited first sentence as I'm having a brain to keyboard conflict. heh.) Don't know if Norton gets antsy costwise if you have a break in the subscription but it's worth a try to check it out.
Bubonics should be taught in schools sounds like another promising RT thread to start.

I had the same problem after dropping my peanutbutter toast sticky side down on the keyboard. I had to set it aside and put another keyboard on. Easy for me as I have a box full of them. Another little project for me if I want to "floss" it. I may just toss it.
