Hmm, just had an interesting event on Ebay / PayPal. Buyer bought an item that weighs 4.5 pounds. I had calculated shipping with a $2.00 handling fee. Buyer paid right away before I even invoiced her. Her address on the Ebay notice was close by. Never notice that the address on the PayPal notice was in CA, far away!! I sent, but realized when I was doing some bookkeeping tonight that I was shorted $8 in postage due to the change of address!!
Has this ever happened to anyone else?? If someone puts in a different deliver address when paying through Paypal and it is calculated shipping does the shipping costs ever change?? Never noticed it before, but it might have happened before.

I have come across cases like this before, the paypal address is different from the Ebay address, the recent one is a buyer from China!
You should ask your buyer to make them the same and get some of your shipping fee back !

yes, thanks hwahwa, I did contact the buyer & she claims she has tired to rectify the problem, but did agree to pay the difference.
I am just wondering how many times this has happened & I never noticed it since now Paypal says we can ship to different addresses than those of the owner of the Ebay ID. I am going to be more vigilant in the future.

Yes, I have seen the same thing... in fact, I often base accepting offers based on location. When I respond to offers I do clearly state that the offer is accepted based on their location.
We include free shipping, but the truth is that someone making a $50 offer on an item in California may cost me $10 shipping, while someone will have to make a $55 offer for me to accept it if they are in Florida.

This kind of reminds me when buyers used to be able to "change" the shipping amount in their payment. They would conveniently change it from $10 to $0. When you mentioned it, they pretended it wasn't them.

If you used Ebay's label it would have gone to the wrong address since the address listed with Ebay was not the one that she registered with Paypal. If you went through PayPal the address would have been correct, but the postage was wrong. I took it to the PO and then realized the postage she paid was too little.

Well,if you have 2 different addresses-one with ebay and the other with Paypal and you choose to print shipping label from paypal, thats not much Ebay can do for you, afterall you are the seller and you make that decision.
I doubt if Ebay can tweak its system to remind a seller that your buyer paypal address for this payment is different from the one registered with Ebay, you have to monitor it yourself.
How do you know the Ebay address is wrong for your shipment?

I never pay any attention to see if the 2 match. I don't we should have to. It is the buyer's responsibility to have it correct in both places.
Bet she has a lot of missing package.

lostmymojo: I know the Ebay address is wrong because she had a different address on the PayPal notice which is the one you are supposed to ship to since that is where she paid for the item.
Plus, when I contacted her she told me the Ebay address was not correct. She has since corrected it.
If the address on Ebay was farther away from me, zip code wise, she woudld have overpaid on calculated shipping, but since the address on Ebay was fairly close (zip code wise), she underpaid when she paid through PayPal since the invoice from Ebay used her old address to calculate shipping.
Plus, if I had printed the label through PayPal, the package might have been returned for insufficient postage.

This is not much PAYPAL or Ebay can do for you.
Paypal serves more than Ebay, like on Yahoo shopping ,parents come to buy something for their kids in college and they want you to giftwrap and send to their kids's college address.
On Yahoo shoppping, you can build your own shipping rate table-like anything under 25,charge 4.95,anything over 25 but less than 50,charge 7.95 etc etc
Another way is to charge by weight, anything under one lb,you charge that much /
You can also upload UPS shipping rates.
The buyer knows how much shipping he is paying,he does not neg the shop just because the shop makes a little money on shipping.
Ebay has many resellers ,they want to pay as little as possible,so they carp about shipping .
For Ebay,I charge a flat rate.

Dear lost: the item on Ebay was using calculated shipping to take advantage of the difference in weight & distance from the seller.Ebay does the calculating using USPS rate schedule.

It has been ages since I have seen a discrepancy between ebay and PayPal addresses but I also require my customers use ebay Checkout. The calculated shipping cost is always updated correctly even if the buyer changes delivery addresses during checkout.
Another bonus of printing your labels on ebay is that you can see how much postage the customer paid on the label creation page.
I think the only way your customer could have created that mess was by making the purchase in eBay and then paying directly from PayPal.
I have stopped using PayPal labels for ebay packages just for that reason alone. Puts that ball back into the customer's court if they do not update their mailing address eBay.
Even for those few customers who checkout and then send an email asking me to ship to another address, I refund their payment and send them an email telling them how to edit the delivery address during checkout.
The only way a buyer can mess up the flow is by paying directly from PayPal. Even then the address from PayPal would show during label creation and you could see if the incorrect postage was paid.
eBay labels have save me a time or 2 from paying for the customer's mistake. If I see the wrong postage was paid that is usually when I have to take a deep breath (to keep from screaming) <g> Then I cancel the payment and send them a nice informative email explaining how to get to eBay Checkout and how to edit their delivery address during the Checkout process.
I would suspect some buyers use direct PayPal payments on purpose just to see if you will eat the added delivery cost without complaining.

I charge one flat fee for domestic shipment, also one flat fee for overseas shipping,so it does not matter which address I use,Paypal or Ebay as long as it is in the same country.
But $8 is not small change you want to eat!
