Over the last few years we have seen a fun trend in items we sell thanks in part to the AMC TV show, Mad Men. First off, this show has popularized the merchandise we sell. Furniture, lighting, art, collectibles have all increased in popularity for us, both locally and across the country. When Mad Men first came out we saw little effect, but after several seasons it has truly helped the market even in a tough economy.
We have been able to track its popularity across the world as it is broadcast in other countries. Our sales started in the USA and last year the same merchandise sold strong to UK and Australia buyers. We continue to sell to these countries, but in the last month or so we have seen strong sales to Sweden, Norway and Switzerland.
It just proves how television can manipulate pop culture trends. Anyone else have similar experiences with other shows?
