I have a customer that won an auction on 8/13. She completed checkout and it stated that she sent the money order on 8/19. To date, I haven't received it. She wrote to me a couple of days ago and asked where her item was. I wrote back and stated that I haven't received her money order yet, but that when I do, I would ship the item out to her. She never wrote back. Usually, I can keep communication up in situations like this, but not with this customer.
Finally, yesterday, I filed a UID so that I can at least get my fees back and relist the item. Today I received an INR. I KNOW that I haven't received the money order. I haven't cashed any of my money orders for the past month, and double- and triple-checked through them and I don't have one from her. I have been watching the mail every day for it, and I KNOW I haven't received it.
She only has a feedback of 4, but because she filed an INR, I'm not sure if she is a newbie or not. I have responded to the INR and told her that I haven't received the money order and asked if she put delivery confirmation on the envelope so that I can try to track it through the postal service. Of course, I haven't heard back yet.
What happens next? In 4 years of selling, I have never had this happen. The amount of the sale is $25.00.
Any and all advice is appreciated!
Diane

Tell her to go where she purchased the money order and have it traced. You can also ask her to send you a copy of the money order receipt to stop the NPB process, while the trace is being done.

DO NOT STOP THE NPB DISPUTE!!!! I made that mistake once a long time ago and found out that once you stop it, it can not be started again. Just let the NPB dispute open until it is straightened out. If you close it and never receive payment your screwed for FVF's.

Thanks, Mike. No, I'm not going to stop the NPB process, but I will take Twig's advice and write to her to tell her to put a trace on the money order.

It could be the posties...but it could also be a delaying tactic on the part of the buyer.
I usually give buyers a generous 2 weeks to get mailed payments here. After that they get a polite email inquiry. If they reply and say payment was sent, I suggest they consider sending a 2nd payment. Whichever arrived first would be cashed, and if a second payment ever did arrive I would mail it back uncashed, either with their item or separately if need be.
I wait another week and if still no $ then I file a UID, politely letting the buyer know "it's only as a pre-caution" . This gives em a real heads up/final 10 days to make good, after which, if necessary, I close the UID and relist.
