Thanks for the site link. I wondered if there was a site that kept track of the store count.

From that chart, it looks as though eBay's plan to reduce the number of stores hasn't exactly panned out. The number has been reduced, but I don't think it's a great number. At least not as great as I would have expected.

Yes, but how have the number of ITEMS in each store been affected? I know in my case, I only have about half the stuff listed that was there a month ago.

That's so true Dr. Arcane. I have a couple of friends that kept their stores open but only have 1/4 to 1/2 the inventory that they had prior to the increase. What would be really handy is a ebay store listing count historical chart.

I still have my store. It is useless as far as sales are concerned.
My slum-store has never generated its cost to operate in sales.
I use it for storage --- just as Ms.Meg must have theorized, my store is just for boarding items.
Some do have successful thriving business in their stores. Mine is an anti-profitable store. (hehe)
My eBay store is like my garage, not sure what is there, but might need it sometime.

eBay called yesterday trying to peddle some Marketing Tools. He was heralding Store Pro and the WONDERFUL new Marketing Tools .

I told him tha I would just soon keep my money than give even more to eBay. He was very nice, he emailed me with more on the WONDERFUL new Market Tools later in the day.
Yep WONDERFUL for them (more bucks from moi) not so WONDERFUL ( paying more Bucks)

Anyway, back to the stores. I suspect many kept their stores for various reasons. Many may have cut back on number of items. Mine is the same - good storage .

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. We are drying out in the Carolinas

Even though my ebay store is still open with items, I will be closing it as soon as the last item ends..... just before the 22nd. I might suspect that there are other store owners that are doing the same thing. Maybe the best time to judge how many stores have closed would be to look on the 22nd of September. I know I tried to get all relisted into my store before August 22nd [to beat the new fee increase] for their final time being listing in my ebay store.

I know every summer ebay slows to a crawl as far as sales go, but this year has been the worst. My ebay store has always generated (like clock-work) an average of 10 items a week/$140 a week- it was always a nice bonus and well worth it to park my items there for future storage. However, it has been nearly ZILCH $0 in the past 2 months. I have never seen so many items with 0 hits, much less any sales.

I decided to move all of my items to my now-opened Vendio store, drop the ebay store on Sept. 22nd and focus all direction to Vendio. I will only be launching my normal auctions on ebay, and if an item does not sell the 2nd time, it will go directly into my Vendio store (hence ebay will see no additional $$ for that item beyond 2 listing fees). I do however have my fingers crossed that Vendio will support any new sites that may come onto the scene!

Glad to hear you are drying out in the Carolinas!! Unfortunately here in New York we have been wet and soggy all day from the storm remnants Thankfully no wind though, just bleck!

park my items

There is a certain manufacturer of light cotton or rayon dresses whose designs I particularly like. I have been doing a search for them once a week since May and have purchased six, all at auction.

I must say, however, I'm getting really tired of seeing the same friggin' dresses in the same eBay stores appearing at the bottom of the search week after week. These are useless to me. They are priced much too high and I will never buy them. They are indeed "parked", but to what end?

So I ask: What buyer are you waiting for? Ivana Trump?

Are Stores owners aware of the stultifying effect of parking merchandise? Cheez, even retail stores rearrange their displays to make the place look fresh and new from time to time.

Parked items in my store actually accomplish their goal:

1) these items all do eventually sell. My regular buyers (I am sure) see them over and over- they just skip over them if they are not interested. They tend to be purchased by buyers that are looking for that one specific item or by buyers that purchase large quantities and just might add these items to their purchase. As far as how they come up in an ebay search- I have no control over that. Now that I am putting them in my Vendio store they will not come up on an ebay search. They will only be seen by buyers that make the effort to click on my Vendio store link.

2)Before 'stores' came on the scene, if an item did not sell after 2 listings, it was never relisted and was never seen again- not by buyers nor by me. Having 1000s of items there is no chance that I would ever physically pick it up again to relist it. It just became another lost item in the stack of 1000s. 'Stores' gave me the chance to visually keep it out there. Items do not sell if they are stashed away in a closet.

I buy on ebay too and see items over and over again in my favorite seller's stores. I just skip over them but am sure that over time the right buyer will visit and these items will disappear off their list.

No, nor does anyone else who doesn't want to see the same things over and over again.

You can configure your search so that it includes eBay Stores items....but not that it excludes them.

I'm going to start lobbying eBay to add such a feature to Search. I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to see all the cruft.

If you click on the sellers ebay store icon, you can exclude a seller's store items and only see their auction items: 'View Auction only' option is there.

Unfortunately if you do a 'search by seller', those results do not give you the option of eliminating store items. After clicking on 'customize display', oddly there is no option to show 'only auction items'- but it has a 'show store inventory items only' option.

I would think that if ebay wanted to get back to their 'core' auction-style auctions, they would make sure that there was an option at all search points to see 'auction only' items.

My items are doing better being parked at Half.Com My better money items are best sold in auction or Fix priced. My auctions have always been my bread and butter on E-Bay.
