I was reading this on one of ebay's new blogs. The discussion was about deadbeats , but feedback did come up. It actually offers a real solution to ebay's faulty feedback system. Here is what was written.....

acornridgeman ( 1144) View items for sale

You are right - it will effect their wallet so nothing will be done. Ebay will tell you that the feedback system will weedout deadbeats, but that is not true. Most sellers (99%) will not leave a negative feedback for fear of receiving a retaliation negative from the deadbeat. Ebays feedback system does not work. If a person is given a negative they should be locked out of leaving a return negative if there is no record of payment (ie paypal). Like wise, a buyer that pays right away with paypal, should be locked out of receiving a negative from the seller. This would allow good paying bidders to leave a negative for a shifty seller without fear of getting retaliation from the seller. When ebay fixes the feedback system, it will cut down on both deadbeat bidders and shady sellers.

I disagree. Yes, payment is important, but it's not the only factor.

How about buyers that complain when an item takes too long to arrive, but was shipped immiediately?

How about buyers that claim an item was not as described, when it was?

How about buyers that just plain LIE in order to get a refund?

No. There are plenty of factors that affect my judgement of the buyer other than whether or not they paid.

At least the first half of the idea was OK- if Paypal concurs that the buyer did NOT pay, then retaliatory feedback against the seller should not be allowed. Paypal knows for a fact whether or not payment happened, while all the things I listed cannot be easily verified by Paypal/eBay.

Sellers fault. Not buyers.

Wouldn't that be the post office,Fed-Ex ,UPS or whatever shipper you use fault....How could it be the sellers fault if they mail it the same day or the next day ?

I agree with toasted. I advertise that I will ship within 24 hours of receiving payment & I do. I also email the buyer & tell them how & when their purchase was shipped. Most of the time I tell them the approximate date of arrival. Never have a complaint as re: shipping

I do the same Sanmar. I have yet to recieve a complaint but 2 times and both times it was at the buyers end, they didn't get notice of large box to go pick up, I tell them to check with their post office and yep it has been sitting there waiting for them to come get it. That is when it is really no one's fault but the post man maybe for MAYBE not leaving notice or attempted delivery. Funny thing is that most buyers that complain never check the delivery confirmation number tracking or they would see a delivery attempt. At least in my 2 cases that was the deal, plus I always send them the tracking number and notice of shipping. Another case of can't read I am afraid.

Edited to add a funny story. I sent a large box with a float in it about 3 years ago and I get this email that they never got the package. Well maybe not so funny but I had gotten billed by Fed Ex upon delivery and had confirmation of delivery. HA they didn't get anyone to sign for package apparently and a week went by and Fed Ex came with another package for them and they were home so they asked where the package was from me and LOW and BEHOLD the Fed Ex guy said he had put it under their boat so no one would see it and get it since they were not home. Sure enough it was out under their boat & trailer and had been there for 2 weeks and they didn't even see it. I sure was happy they found it as I was in process of getting another one ready to send even though I was not really responsible and had a confirmation. Now I know to call and complain if it ever happens again and have them follow it up.

The nicest thing about going OVER 1000 FB and getting that RED STAR OVER JAX, is the freedom to...not care a rat's posterior about FB anymore!

I tell my buyers that I will immediately reciprocate feedback left for me, and politely ignore any "feedbabk-whiners"

This is stated in my "ITEM SHIPPED" email that I always send out -- this email includes:

1) UPS TRACKING NUMBER
2) UPS LINK for TRACKING
3) eBay FEEDBACK link to make it easy for the buyer to leave feedback...FIRST...FOR ME & RALPHIE!

SINCE we instituted this policy, we've had virtually NO whiners about: "Where's my feedback?"

Yes, however those companies are technically the sellers agents. Why do you think PayPal and the credit card companies charge you back if the package isn't delivered? It is because it is not the buyers item until it is in their hand. Until then, it is the sellers responsibility to deliver the item.

LEGALLY, you are correct. In a court of law the seller is responsible for getting the product into the buyer's hands.

But we aren't talking about a court of law, we're talking about eBay. Common sense SHOULD prevail. If you pay today and I ship today, it isn't MY fault if your widget takes ten days to arrive and you think it should have taken six.

I'm sure we've ALL had buyers with unreasonable shipping expectations.

I agree stonecold, but not arriving and arriving slow are 2 different things. If it didn't arrive and its a low value item I'd just refund and call it a day ,telling the buyer I'm sorry the item got lost blah blah blah etc. etc.(haven't had a package lost yet but I did just have a package take 31 days to get to Hawaii...eek ! lol and it was over 150.00 sale)If it was a high value I'd stall by putting a trace on the package, have them check their post office and if it still hasn't showed up after another 10-15 days I'd file a insurance claim with the post office as I never ship out anything over a 50.00 value without insurance even if I have to pay for insurance myself. If it was just slow getting there ,well I can't help how long they take to deliver as they say chit happens. The buyer can look at the date mailed and see it was mailed the same day if paid for by 4 pm or if after 4 pm the next day. Less than 24 hrs. handling time with me. At that point its no ones fault it just happens. I'd say most understand its not the sellers fault when they see the mailing date, its just a small percent of buttazzes you have to look out for.
Locking a seller out for fast payment through paypal is just asking for more feedback extortion, like "if you don't refund I'll neg you and there is nothing you can do cause I paid fast and your locked out from giving me a neg". It would be bad news for sellers. Nice dreamed up system but I just can't see it ever working ...just my opinion.
