At an antique dealer's yard sale I bought a set of 6 in box, Corvette 1957, 1:24 scale. All different colors, all in plastic wrap. I can't decide whether to sell all, in the box, or sell them separately. What would you do?

First my comment.

DO NOT OPEN THE BOXES. I deal with many die cast cars and the biggest thing the collectors want is unopened-undamaged boxes. Simply opening the box can de-valuate the car by as much as 75%.

Now questions.

The way you wrote your question implies they are all in one box. Did you mean they are individually packaged in their own boxes and plastic wrapped?

Also, are the 57 'vettes from 1957 or are they retros? Say from the 1990's or even more recent than that?

What I have here is 6 Corvette models, metal, not kits, already assembled, (doors open, etc.) in ONE long box. Each car is in a plastic bag of its own. I don't know if they're recent items or from 1957 itself and will check next time I'm upstairs. I hope it'll be self-evident.

Take a look at the underside - see if there are serial numbers and who the maker is. Chevrolet released a series of diecast Vettes many years ago and if these are part of this issue they could be quite valuable. Let me know what you find - I work for a Chevy organization and I could possibly lend some assistance.

Capolady: The box is 20 x 8 3/4 x 2 1/4" deep. It's black; cover says Superior Corvette, heavy gauge die-cast, doors open, free wheeling. There's the Chevrolet logo, then 1:24 "collectibles".

On box bottom: In six languages--Die Cast Metal with Plastic Parts, opening doors, right is reserved to effect changes in colours and technical details, not suitable for children under 3 years of age because small parts can be swallowed. (Note the British spelling, "colours."

The six cars, 6 different colors, appear to be not played with at all, pristine. They are each nested in a box-size single plastic made-to-fit compartment.

Under each model: "1957 Corvette used under license, SS7708, Made in China."

Anything you can tell me about the relative value and history would be hugely appreciated! (I'll be away from the house all day today, back tonight, and I'll answer further comments or questions then.) Thanks so much for your offer of help!

Yep, that's my set. Stung again! Sigh. Well, I need to get rid of them; maybe my grandsons would like to play with them.

The dealer who sold them at his yard sale said he'd paid $40 for the set; I got it for $10.

Hate it when this happens!

If you dont mind holding on to them, they could be worth more,I think they are made in the mid 90s.
They used to sell the single ones in the Sunday newspaper and will ship first, invoice later.

Donate them to a church youth group or the YMCA to use as prizes. Get a receipt and take a big tax write off.

Definetly not from the 50's, but could be from the late 70's or newer. Are there any dates on the box? How about a UPC label?

Sorry - Made in China is the problem. I was looking for ERTL or Liberty Classics. These 2 manufacturers are the ones who make licensed diecast models for American manufacturers. Remember those 2 names. If you run across diecast cars or trucks made by these companies then they could be worth something. Hope this helps.

Yep, there's a UPC code. So. . . to date that, are we talking 1970 on? Or slightly earlier?
