Bahumbug! Kinda got my ire up a tad bit. "Time that Ebay makes sellers responsible" what a crock. Go here to read their blog, I wanted to let her have it but didn't --------YET. Maybe I am just too touchy today, wanted to reach in and slap her silly.

She makes some valid points BUT not all sellers are like her apparent Big experience is at 70 feedback.

From her blog:"go to your ebay request lines and demand that we get fairer treatment...
tell them sellers need some accountability in addition to feedback"

Well from reading her Blog I have to agree with her as a seller I ship faster then the time I expect you to pay me which is within 3 days. I ship in 1 day.

I am also a buyer and it bothers me how slowly some sellers take to ship. I paid within mins of the auction ending and to wait more then 2 days for the item to at least be shipped out is not right.

I also agree with her about if you as a buyer receive an item either not working, or the wrong item why should I as a buyer pay for shipping back to YOU. The seller is the one who made the mistake, or misrepresented the item it's not the buyers fault.

I as a seller return all money if I made the mistake, if there is nothing wrong with the item and no mistakes were made on my part I will not refund your shipping back to me. I know even when large companies make mistakes the buyer seems to always pay the shipping back unless you fight tooth and nail with the company.

I have bought from sellers that have great feedback and then to only find out they don't pack well enough for shipping cross country or they take too long to ship. Lately instead of buying off of Ebay I have just been going into web sites and buying what I need without any problems, no hassles, no delays in shipping and everything well packed...

I think what the person posting the comments fails to realize, is that alot of ebay selles are NOT full time ebay sellers and sell part time. Most part time sellers have a J O B that usually takes up most of there time and the selling on ebay is a part time job.

If she want real customer service and real fast shipping with REAL service she needs to go to a COMMERCIAL website where real service is expected and required.

Ebay for alot of folks is either a hobby or a part time job and for that reason alot of sellers do not take it as serious as a person that sells on ebay full time.

just my 2 cents

How dare someone take up to 2 days to ship???
Is that for real??
I give up to 7 days to pay (more if requested) and I will take up to 7 days to ship if I want!!! I never do and as a rule I ship in 1 or 2 days but I'll be #@$! if I'll let someone tell me I have to ship the next day. If they need it in a hurry - just tell me!!
As for return postage - I have always felt that if the seller make a mistake, it shouldn't cost the buyer a dime.

This person has never sold a single thing on Ebay and has no idea what an auction or transaction looks like from our side of the fence. She also lives in California. There are only 2 states that take longer to ship to from anywhere in the country. She probably doesn't realize that any seller on the east coast can have her item at her front door in 24 hours, but is she willing to pay for overnight? This is the type of person who will buy a CD from a seller in New York, and expect Priority shipping, but only wants to pay for media mail. I doubt if any of you have ever dealt with a buyer like that

Lady, you can take all the time you want to ship its not my concern, why are you taking what I say so personal?? And if your not taking it personal then your making fun of what I said, so which is it.

I was referring the blog not you!
I'm saying is if I give them 7 days to pay then they should give me 7 days to ship unless they need it quickly in which case act like a human and tell me that you need it by xx day - preferably before you bid.
Somethings take longer to ship - large items, furniture etc.
A piece of jewelry is in the bag and out the door within hours of the payment. I may need to pick up a box for a lamp etc.
Fast shipping is one of my biggest FB notes but I ship fast because I want to not because I feel I have to.

Sorry Lady If I took it wrong but you did use my words not the blog words.........

As for me if I don't have the right size box I need for a large item then I don't list it till I have the box...... I want everything that sells to leave the next day after payment, but as you put it........it's my way of doing things not that I have to do it that way.

Yes I know some things take longer to ship but when a seller holds the item for a week before shipping then the time is even longer and thats what I was referring to. How long it takes once its in the shippers hands thats something we cant control, I have had sellers hold items for over a week then ship but like "Chessguy" mentioned not all sellers do this full time so I guess it's hard for them.

WAAAIT a minute. I am one seller that was doing this part time while I was working. I am also a mom. I left my job 2 weeks ago to do ebay full time. Yes, I am a "small time" seller AND I don't accept paypal payments so they have to go the extra mile to get a stinkin' money order. It might take them a day or two or even 7 days to get a money order. That's fine. I still ship within 48 hours I receive payment. I run like crazy after work to hit the post office. Sometimes I made it and sometimes I had to work late and didn't.

Another thing, If I don't have a box the size I need to ship the item. I start looking when I list the item. If I don't have it by the time it's sold, I scurry around like crazy to find one. I had that exact problem when I sold that old horn. I actually had to make a box for that one.

If I offer something for sale and someone commits to purchase something from me, I do everything in my power to make it a smooth fast transaction

The above is my opinion only and is how I conduct my ebay business. It is not meant to offend anyone.

Yes we sellers are an irresponsible lot, why we are getting rich sitting back laughing at the buyers. Duh. We work our butts off, do the listings, pay ALL the fees, do all the running around getting boxes to save the buyer on shipping cost, send out all the notices to keep them abreast of the progress or at least I do. Plus we buy packing materials which a lot of the time we don't really charge enough for in the shipping. Let see the post office often times makes more money than we even get for the item regardless of fees. HUM.

Shame on us for having a real job outside of ebay.

Shame on us for asking for payment in an appropriate time frame.

Shame on us for not refunding shipping or other amounts because you did NOT purchase insurance and item was perfect before the Post office Fed Ex or UPS fella drop kicked it to the back of the truck and threw that 300 pound bar bell on top of the 5 inch square package we so lovingly packed with peanuts for that plastic part your ordered.

And shame on us for your email spam folder that you don't bother to look at to get your notices of shipment and other pertinent emails.

OOPS, shame on us for wanting any kind of reply to the ebay item you just won and wait 10 days if then to pay for. You bid, you won and you leave us hanging wondering if you really exist and we waste time trying to contact you which you promptly ignore until the mood strikes or you get a NPB alert. Then all of a sudden your friends friend's aunt has a cousin who had an accident and it took you 10 days to get them to the hospital across the country in a broken down station wagon that the dog ate the distributor wire to and they do not have computers in that part of the U.S. and was not sure the electricity was working there either so you could not email anyone that you were indisposed.. AND it too you another 2 weeks to get home by way of St. Croix of which you fell off the ship and was stranded at sea treading water for a week and your fingers were still waterlogged upon arriving home you could not handle your mouse properly. Then you expect overnight delivery if you decide it is time to pay with Paypal which would have taken you all of 30 seconds to do when the auction closed and you had just sniped in the last 10 seconds of the bidding. Oh my--SHAME SHAME on me the fat cat getting rich on feebay. Where is that soap box when you need it. LOL

I generally ship a product out within two days. Most of the time, I ship the next business day. As a buyer, however, I've experienced some terrible ship times. I bought something that required a PayPal payment within 24 hours. Ok. I paid within minutes. It took ONE WEEK for my package to get shipped. It wouldn't have bothered me so much except that they expected payment within 24 hours, but felt it was okay to wait an entire week to ship the product out.

It makes the rest of us look bad.

When I sell an item I ship as soon as possible after payment. Usually the next day. I do this because I can. I have been paid for the item and I am not into storage. Not everyone can and that makes not one bit of difference in how I do things. My shipping time matters to no one but my buyer and me.

When I buy, I pay at auction end or if I am not home, that evening. Nothing has ever been hanging while I make my trip from St Croix . If you are doing this as a hobby, great, but my money spent is certainly no hobby for me. If you don't have time to ship it, then you don't have time for a hobby. Yes, I pay my Ebay fees from money made from Ebay. SO that means in reality, if I am pricing correctly, charging shipping and handling to cover time, materials and postage, then my buyer actually paid my Ebay fee for that auction. I am the middle man there.

I can't agree there, Cheryl. I'm not responsible for anyone else's shipping practices, good, bad or ugly. If a seller ships in a butterfly's heartbeat after receiving payment, does that also reflect on me? Nope, don't think so. If it doesn't cut both ways, it doesn't cut at all.

I would even argue that comments such as yours can be construed by people who would like to see more eBay "uniformity" as being indicative of a need for more stringent rules and harsher sanctions on sellers. Let's not go there.

Some of the items I have bought off of E-Bay lately took awhile before I got them, but I think it was because the Seller was waiting to get their order. On those same items many Sellers noted in their auction it took up to two weeks sometimes before they shipped. Most of the items I buy are for myself,so I don't get bend if I wait a couple of weeks to get the item. Like some have said, some Sellers have a JOB besides E-Bay and it is a lot to go to the Post Office everyday when you work. Mine is close so it's not a big deal, but I would say some sellers are trying to save on gas and have to travel a good piece to their Post Office.

So, fluffy, you think it's okay for a seller to demand payment within 24 hours, and then wait for one week to ship? No where did I say there should be sanctions or harsher rules for sellers or even uniformity. You may not be responsible for what other sellers do anymore than I am, however some buyers tend to lump all sellers into the same pile, especially new buyers. They get turned off and leave. Word of mouth can be as bad as it is good.

Cheryl,

I don't know about your seller; I tend to ignore demands for payment within any time frame when I'm buying. I pay anywhere from immediately to a week later. What are they going to do to me? Leave negative feedback? Like I care.

I guess most of my sellers ship more or less promptly, though if one took a week to do it I probably wouldn't notice. I'm pretty busy.

I don't care what buyers think of eBay sellers as a whole. I simply can't be bothered to worry about that. I can't control what 40,000 other full-time sellers do or the many, many more part-time sellers.

I do think that if you are unhappy with a seller's performance, though, you might want to exercise your right to stop buying from her.

They get turned off and leave.

I guess my response to that would be "So what?"

Both my mother and husband have claimed loudly in the past that they would never, ever buy anything on eBay again. You know what? Find something they want badly enough and they start buying again. Last time it was a $600 ham radio for my husband. Some of the stuff he wants he simply can't find anywhere else.

I have a customer in Missouri. Lives in a town so small that when I screwed up her street address once, she got the package anyway with no delay. It's been six years since she made her first purchase. Oh, Barbara C. was a high-maintenance honey in the beginning... Nothing ever got to her fast enough, her emails weren't responded to promptly enough, nothing could please her. She got fed up with me and left. Thought she was gone for good. 18 months later she's back, saying the quality of the jewelry she bought from other sellers was poor and sometimes they never shipped at all. She's been with me ever since. Sometimes I get backed up and it's a few days before I can ship to her. Nary a peep out of her now.

Just because I don't have a box on hand for large items doesn't make me an irresponsible thoughtless seller, it just make me a practical one.
Case in point - I listed a large wicker item for which I would need to order a box. I decided to see if it sold before ordering a large box from Uline and paying $50 freight as well as the price of the box (boxes, as I would order more to make it worthwhile).
I ended up selling it to someone who is moving to St. Augustine next week and wants to pick it up in Jacksonville!!
I do have it in my TOS that large items take longer to ship.
No complaints so far.

I don't think I would bid on an auction that requires payment in 24 hours!!!

I have to agree with you, Lady D. I live in a huge house made small by someone's compulsive hoarding; I can't keep boxes around, even collapsed ones. I go get one when I need it.

When I visualize the kind of facility an eBay seller would need in order to satisfy the pickiest buyers, it looks something like this:

-1 constant correspondent answering mail and when not answering mail, waiting by the computer in case mail comes in.

-1 runner who transports each package to the post office as soon as it is packed and labelled.

-1 finagler who does nothing but hunt down valuable yet free stuff so it can be offered on eBay for 10% of its retail price.

-1 RMA staffer who handles returns the moment they come back and sends payments back with an extra premium to compensate the time and trouble of the buyer who thought that periwinkle blue was actually pink.

-1 courier standing by, phone in hand, ready to make airline reservations to deliver an item personally because little Susie's birthday is the day after tomorrow, you know.

-1 picker who drives around town dumpster diving to get free packing material.

-A department of 3 people who lavishly stage and photograph every object from every possible angle, so that the auction for the $4.99 widget is accompanied by a hundred photos. They list in their spare time.

-1 person who sits in front of a computer all day leaving cutesy feedback praising the buyer to the skies...whether or not feedback for the seller is left first.

That's ten people in all. Assuming an 8 x 8 cubicle for each, a small space in which to put a microwave and refrigerator, lavatory, etc., the rent on such a space around these parts would run you upwards of $36,000 a year. Since I can't find *anyone* who will work for less than $16.00 an hour, your salary load with benefits is $665,600 a year.

Sure hope your finagler is REALLY good at finding free widgets!

You will never please some people. I just had a buyer who I had no contact from for 8 days. I sent 3 emails through ebay, and then 1 directly. Finally, I filed a unpaid item warning, and got a nasty email from her saying that "threats don't work". I explained it was not a threat, just a way to get my fvf's back from someone who had not contacted me. She paid, and I mailed the same day. 3 days later ( a quick delivery from Canada to the US), I get 2 neutral feedbacks. "Item received". I left her 2 also, "Failed to make contact for 8 days". I feel I did nothing wrong, and everything I should have done.
