For those of you who opted out of ten cent listing: Congratulations! This has been the worst one ever! Less than 10% of my listings have bids. Bummer!

sorry to hear that pixia, i feel for you! we opted out this time.

we quit participating in the 10 cent listing days because...(excerpted from something i just posted at eBorg):

"the 10-cent listings i suppose were what someone said earlier - eBay thought we'd go for a 'quick fix' that isn't a quick fix.

i stopped participating in 10-cent fp and auction sales earlier this year. they aren't particularly profitable. it was very labor intensive to send hundreds of listings to the 10-cent sales. time=money.

then...add the cost of fees for what sales were made, the 3 cents per listing eBay gets back from us when we put items back in the store (so ***13 cents extra*** that we spent if the item didn't sell) AND, to top it off, listings that then all end at the same time a month later, in a big huge wad. the only one who really comes out ahead with these 10-cent sales is...eBay.

i downgraded my store from featured to regular about a week ago. that is $420 or so a year that eBay won't be getting from me. why would i want to pay for a featured store when no one can find the items anyway? the 'free' keywords actually cost $150 per quarter in fees. obviously, keywords are not working because my sales have declined drastically since search was 'changed back.' (it never was 'changed back,' something else was substituted!)

i am debating whether to remove my 'powerseller' designation myself from my id. to me, it just feels like eBay has acted in very bad faith with us. that feeling only grows as time passes and eBay remains singularly unresponsive to the mess ***they've*** created with the search."

This is my opinion and hopefully do not offend-

Keywords are completely USELESS .

Featured store also is not worth the almost 50 bucks a month to moi!!

Been there! Did that!

I am trying to keep more of my money instead of letting feebay and THEIR cohort pal-we-pay, & image hosting get it.

After paying taxes and them, it is not much left.

Besides, none of the end of auction emails have shown up for things that ended last night. I probably won't try it again, but then I always get excited and stay up late listing, listing, listing. Last year was better than this year for some reason.

When I read about the 10 cent listing day, I thought wow, what great timing - This was the week I planned on not running any new auctions, it turned out to be a smart decision on my part. I hate 10 cent listing day, I can try to list 100 things, save what, $25 and work like crazy because ebay gives NO REAL NOTICE before this happens (I was logged on to email and got the notice a few hours before it began) and then you have 10 million other auctions to compete with. No thank you, I won't participate, and am always somewhat annoyed when they do these when I have a bunch of listings already running.

I'm happy with my 10 cent listing - only sold 3 out of the 8 items but let's just say they sold really well.

I was happy with my 10 cent listing day. I listed about 65 auctions, and sold 24, some for quite good prices.

Aren't those QuoteTracker stats built on HITS, not sales? Looks like a lot of people were listing for the ten-cent day.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...

The stats are actual NUMBER of listings at any given time -- not hits. I always assumed the numbers were auction and fixed price listings only, without store numbers included. And apparently lots of folks moved listings from their stores onto auction that day?

If you go to the auction counts website, you can also find sell-through rates for BIN and auction listings by category. May be useful if checking trends, but numbers probably should be taken as guides rather than etched in stone.

I find my auctions do best when listings on eBay total are 12 million or so. Only listed a few things this time around, but at least it got me motivated to get around to doing the listings for those things I have been tripping over.

I have never had a lot of luck with 10 cent listing days and almost did not participate in this one because the listings just get lost amongst the others that would have been ending last evening.

My listings usually end on Saturday evenings as Sunday evening is always a complete "zoo".

I did decide to list some and did very well BUT I did 5 day listings on the Tuesday morning so they ended on Sunday morning. This was an experiment for me and I really did not expect much.

We did better than any other 'Special Day' listings we have done. We were pleased & surprised.

I listed about 550 items and had a 10% sell through and even got some fairly good prices for some things - not bad for postcard category on sale listing days. The significant difference between this and the other listing sale days I have participated in, is that I did not have increased store sales during the 7 day period. In fact, my store sales are DEAD DEAD DEAD. I think this is caused by "disappearing" items in search.

Try this experiment - do one of your favorite searches. Now refresh the page - again and again. Do you get the same number of results each time? (We are talking auction results here not store items).

If you have an ebay store, go to the page where it shows your total number of items. Refresh the page, again and again. Did you get the same number of items? I have tried this at different times of day (even 2 am) and have eventually gotten different numbers (in my case my store search was off once as many as 2400 items! Yesterday after they announced the search problem was resolved I had a discrepancy of 1,100 items)

Also a search change that should be noted - i searched "WEDGWOOD CHINA" and got 572 results. Then I searched "Wedgwood" and got 9567. So if the buyer doesn't KNOW better and puts the word "china" in the search he/she will only see a fraction of the listings!

Other sellers on the store board have noted that they have had this happen in other categories as well. The search is no longer intuitive and you need to change title to include the name of what your selling (ie postcard) in the title to appear more frequently in results.

I just tested my store item count again thinking they just maybe they fixed it (they rolled back the 12 digit numbers BTW) - it took about 10 refreshes but eventually it said "5842 items found in All Categories". The next refresh showed "7082 items found in All Categories" (the second one is right.

I agree, Neglus

Yesterday I checked on the listings of a friend who I had helped set up on EBay.
I knew she had 41 listings.
I went into one of her items then clicked the infamous "View Sellers other Items" and up came 1 ...yes..ONE! I refreshed again and there were 14...dyslexia on the part of the search function!
The third time I refreshed it finally came up with 41.

How many Buyers are going to keep refreshing the page? We know what to do but the average buyer does not have a clue just how badly the system is broken and the Sellers are suffering.

Mike - I read about the digit roll back on the PESA board. I didn't see an announcement though. Items I listed Monday night had 12 digits and last night they were 10 digits again so I think there must be something to it.

Did you list last night?

I would like to thank all of you who did not participate in the 10 listing day. That meant that your items were not in the way of mine so bidders found my items instead of yours.

I did very well during that stretch. About 35% STR this time around. And the best part, the non-selling items qualify for the relist refunds which now have been extended to at least 5 months, maybe longer. I will let you know. I still have some left from the January 10 cent day.

Keep in mind that 10 cent listing days are designed to inflate eBay's earnings during seasonal lows (in this case post-IRS tax blues). The best time to be selling is when there is an active market for your goods and buyers in abundance. 10¢ listing days are often the opposite and those that don't list as Fixed Price may find bids a bit scarce... I tend to list items that are in demand over the peak sales seasons, particularly since I have almost a monopoly on certain OOP collectibles
