Boy has ebay ever gone and done it now. Just saw this on the announcement board. Every trigger happy person in the world just had their dream come true. Somehow I think this is going to cause more problems than it will fix. Boy, ebay's on a roll recently. Upgrade the store search results and then reverse them. Now this.

***Introducing 'Report this Item' on item pages***
April 03, 2006 | 04:26PM PST/PT
Naresh Narwani
Hi everyone I'm Naresh Narwani, a Product Manager for Trust and Safety features. Earlier this year, Matt Halprin, VP, Global Marketplace Policy Management, in his message on new consequences and other policy management processes, outlined our plans to make it easier for members to report possible listing violations.
I'm happy to say that the "Report this Item" feature will be here over the next few days. Every item page will have a "Report this Item" link at the bottom of the page. Using this link will bypass the Contact Us flow and take you directly to a list of possible reasons why a listing needs to be brought to our attention. This will save you valuable time and help us review potential listing violations quickly. The item number will be included automatically when you use this link.
With millions of active listings on eBay on any given day, we need your help in keeping the marketplace safe. We truly appreciate the efforts of our members who report potential violations to us, and help us keep eBay a safe marketplace to buy and sell.
Sincerely,
Naresh Narwani,
Product Manager, Trust and Safety

It's been trialed on various other eBays and has no real effect than to make it easier to send in a report. eBay CS will likely ignore them as they usually do or pick one out of the bag to check...

GREAT, I forsee a whole new list of recruits for the ebay police task force. Just what we need, more ebay police folks that do not have nothing better to do than send emails to ebay about polices that they totally do not understand.

I must agree that this new program will allow a lot of these nuts that are on ebay now to sit there and just report items.
These are the same nuts who make best offers that are pure trash just to see if they can get a rise out of the seller.
These are the same bidders who do not even try to read the ad and are complaining moments after the receive their bid to complain about something missing that was never even offered in the first place.
Since I have been selling here on E-bay I have seen a steady decline in the civility of bidders and the increase in the expectations of getting the items for free or near free. This will only allow these types another avenue to try to coerce sellers. Thankfully my feedback is high enough to withstand these types but it will really hurt those with lesser feedback numbers.

Let's not forget bidders who may have a beef, legitimate or not, with a seller. How about blocked bidders who are angry they're blocked? Or, ones you reported for non-payment? If they want to really mess with the seller all they need do is report every listing or enough to make it a real pita for the seller. Will eBay look at each listing to make sure the report is justified? Probably not. They don't look now so what makes anyone think they will look once the "destruct" button is put into place. It could be a real nightmare. Talk about bidders being able to hold sellers hostage.

Somehow I don't think this option is going to last long - or at least not be monitored for long. Obviously ebay is aware of the overwhleming possibilities for abuse of the system and it'll ony take a couple weeks to see how many of the reports are bogus and how many are legit.
I think what needs to be implemented also is punishment system for false reporters including suspension of ability to report up to out and out suspension.

Why fenix? to report an auction is to let eBay decide if something is wrong, the one reporting has nothing to do with it after that.
It is eBay's responsibility to investigate or not to investigate.
I also think selling fees should be raised to cover this expense as the public is the ones actually wanting it. As you are aware most news stories about eBay are not good news.
No honest seller should fear being reported.
Honest sellers don't fear being reported. eBay has and does take down legitimate auctions. You are then made part of the game by having to vindicate yourself, which can be a lengthy process. Just ask fluffy. In the meantime, your auctions are toast.

Do you honestly think it will do any good. If you report one now, they don't take the proper actions. Powerseller 101. Lie, cheat, steal. Feedback doesn't matter and sell everything for a penny with shipping at $100.00.
I say, since it is a slow time of year anyway, let's have some fun with it and report every little piddly thing we can. Maybe eBay will get the hint.

Ron - Sometimes I think you disagree just for the sale of disagreeing with me ...
Or are you honestly attempting to defend those that falsly defend the listings of their competitors?

fenix: I believe Ron was being sarcastic. I read him as more of a "live and let live" kind of guy.
Thanks to Stone's bluster, hot air and outright lies about the PowerSeller program, I've gotten in touch with eBay and will have the PS logo (again) in a day or so. I gave it up years ago and ignored subsequent invitations to rejoin. Interestingly, it turns out that if you don't respond to a certain number of invitations, they make a note in your file and stop inviting you.
I have to admit I'm this close to laughing out loud about all the perceived class distinctions people are getting miffed about, here and on other auction boards. But if being a PS and a member of PeSA is all it takes to annoy people, heck, I want to join in too.

You think that the link is stupid? Who doesn't. Have I said anything in support of it?
Like I said - you will argue with me just for the sake of argueing without paying any atttention to what it is that I say.

Didn't say that you did Ron - you questioned a statement I made about false reporting, I asked you a question regarding clarification of your statement... you avoided the question.
