Hi all, I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I've been lurking through every once in a while. I see there's a post about this a little further down. Seems some people can still get contact info, I can't.

Ok, so I've bought something from a seller this time, and I need to email him to finalize my order. Unfortunatley, almost all emails to him bounce back (he's got an AOL email addy).

I wanted to get his contact information. It used to be that you'd get the user's name, address and phone number and they'd get the same. NOW all you get is the opportunity to send a message that eBay will email on your behalf. This won't work since all his emails are bouncing back. I want to phone him, but how can I get his number?

Can you still get the full contact information

I noticed today that they have recently changed the ability to get a users ID from their email adress. I had someone email me this morning regarding 4 current auctions. From the tone of the email I thought they were one of regulars or someone that had current open items and wanted to add more but I did not recognize their email address. When I went to look up their ID instead of letting me know what the ID is all I got was confirmation that they are a member and what their feedback number is.

Hi, thanks for the input. His email address is ***@aol.com if anyone can check (deleted at Fenix's request). Oddly enough, one email reached him and he replied this morning, but emails sent last night and later this morning have all bounced back.

stopwhining asked for the email address to verify it. I still can't contact this seller, although I have the email address, the emails keep bouncing back. I want to get his phone number.

From inforamtion in another threat on a similar topic, I got his contact information from the main search page!

So I called the number to let him know his emails were bouncing and to tell him the details of what to add to my purchase, but the answering machine cut me off after about 5 seconds.

So, emails bounce, the phone goes unanswered, answering machine cuts me off. Greeeeaat...

DELETE HIS EMAIL ADRESS. Good grief. If I ask you to post your credit card number are you going to do it just because I asked? Would you care to have a complete stranger posting your email address on a message board that you have no knowledge of or be subjected to the resulting spam?

Ok relax! I've deleted it. The only reason I posted it was because someone here said they could check to see that it was a valid AOL address. Besides, you'd be surprised how many strangers get your email address anyways. And I don't think the people here on this board are out to create some mastermind plan to do something with a complete stranger's email address. Besides, I think his email address is on his website anyways, so it's no big secret.

And no, I wouldn't post my credit card number here. There's a difference between an email address and a credit card number.

stopwhining, thanks for the help. I'll give him until tonight to reply, or to try and contact him. I don't want to get him in trouble, since one of my emails was successfully received on his end. But yes, all others have bounced. Maybe it's an AOL glitch, or his inbox is full.

In any case, it's very frustrating!

Have you checked to see why it is bouncing? It's one thing is it is an invalid address but it could just be a matter of a full mailbox. Obviously it's not invalid because you they have responded to you.

What is the reason the email is bouncing? Any bounce will always have a message telling why it bounced. Does he have your ISP blocked? Or is there another reason? It will show in the bounce notice. Also, if you have a virus, you cannot send an email to an AOL user. Their servers will reject it and he will never receive it.

sparkz, the email was text only, no attachments or anything, so I doubt it was due to a virus. And I don't think my ISP is blocked becuase one email actually did make it and was replied to.

Here's what the returned mail said:

SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host mailin-02.mx.aol.com [xxx.xxx.156.249]: 421-:
(DYN:T1) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dynt1.html
421 SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE: retry timeout exceeded

These are the same reasons in all the emails that bounced back. What do you think, AOL temporary gliches and I just hit them at "right" time?

He's got you blocked. He accidentally reported one of your emails as spam, or your ISP has a major spamming operation using their servers causing AOL to block further emails from you or your ISP. Open a Yahoo email account and send him an email from there. Here's an explanation of the error you are getting:

Error 421 DYN:T1

421 DYN:T1
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dynt1.html
EXPLANATION:

The IP address you are sending from has been blocked due to AOL Member complaints and/or high volumes of e-mail.

SOLUTION:

Complaints:
When an AOL member clicks "this is spam" for a piece of email sent from one of your IPs, this is considered a "complaint". If you are having difficulty with the number of complaints you are receiving, a feedback loop would benefit you. Once you have requested a feedback loop you will be notified when a member clicks "this is spam". See feedback loop for additional information.

Mail Volumes:
America Online has made provisions for those who need to send large amounts of e-mail to our members. The bulk sender list allows for the possibility of large amounts of e-mail sent to AOL. Apply for the bulk sender list online.

Thanks stopwhining, I'm sending you an email now. You can edit your reply to remove your email addy if you'd like.

Just a follow-up... I sent that seller a message through eBay's "ask seller a question" and it looks like that got through, becuase he sent me a new PayPal invoice for my purchases. But I'd still like to check his email address so I can email him later.

Thanks for looking into this for me. Email on its way in two minutes.

Haha! Stopwhining, the first email I sent to you arrived ok. I received your reply, thanks. Then I replied to thank you, and the email I sent to you bounced back too...

Must be something about my ISP and AOL, they don't like each other. Here's the message I got when the last email to you came back:

SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data:
host mailin-03.mx.aol.com [xx.xx.xxx.xxx]: 421-:
(DYN:T1) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dynt1.html
