Ralphie says they're manufactured in Cha-Ching, CHINA -- truly they be a marvel of imported Elbonian engineering...

Yeah but so are a hell of a lot of other electronic items. Japanese companies have for some time found it advantagous to have their assembling done in China. I think we too are doing that.

Yeah, but China is Evil. Look what they did to the poor Dalai-Lama!
Walmart is evil by association. Not that they aren't evil enough all by themselves.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Tatung is from Korea.

Correction to the above post. Tatung is from Taiwan. They've been around for quite awhile. I was thinking of another company when I said Korea.

So since we all will agree that Taiwan is good, does anyone know if Tatung products have a good reputation?

I think not. I buy a lot of common household products there and do save enough to make going worthwhile. My income has to stretch even if you can afford to pay higher prices for the same stuff elsewhere

I looked at them. You get what you pay for. If your eyes are really good, and you have a great imagination, you'll love it.

Keep in mind, that only the highest end LCD's can hold a candle to even a moderately priced CRT, when it comes to graphics and text. You want sexy, or you want a nice picture?

I would never buy one unless I had a chance to at least try it out in the store and see it in actual use. My first impression is that it should be safe to buy one. Most lcd monitors are farmed out to some obscure plant in China so the name on the label doesn't mean a lot. You would be surprised to learn how many big name companies have their products come off the same assembly line as their competitors. Obviously, Tatung would not be dealing with a mainland assembly plant, so I would suspect their monitors are built in Taiwan in their own plant.

I would not be surprised because I have seen clothes identical in cut and material with the labels of two companies in competition with each other. Actually. I don't want sexy. I want more room on my desk plus my Samsung CRT is over 7 yrs old so I thought I would make a change.

Go for it. If you don't like it after a couple weeks, list it on Ebay. There's millions of people in this country who don't live close to a WalMart store. Someone will probably want it at the price you paid for it.

sparkz, were you thinking of Samsung when you said korea? For all the hype about chinese imports I have found their products pretty reliable (at least for a good while, but like car parts they seem programmed to wearout by a certain time.)

LOL..Actually, I was thinking of Samsung. My son and I bought a pickup load of computer equipment at an auction a while back. I wound up with about 8 Samsung monitors. I have a couple in use now here in the house. I remember Tatung mainly from the days when there was a profit in repairing VCR'S. They were one of the first to come out with an alternative to VHS machines made by Mashushita Electric Co. of Japan.
