I think this particular Hurricane was a bit overrated but 1.8 million without power CANT be good for business/bidding....I kinda sense a slowness about today...

Even if those people had power, I think they have more pressing problems than Ebay. This storm took both property AND lives. It will probably slow Ebay a bit, but the storm could have been much worse and as a person with family in North Carolina, I'm very happy that it wasn't and for that I can live with a slow Ebay.

I don't think the OP meant to be heartless about what's happening the East coast, it was just an observation.

I do think we need to be understanding why payment may be slow or delayed from bidders dealing with the aftermath of the storm, ebay should def. be the last thing on their minds!

Leapfrogger, you hit it right. This board is a discussion about EBAY and the highs & lows and the causes for them. Believe me, my heart goes out to the millions who have suffered through this. If I knew some of the thin-skinned would be reading it, I would have never posted it!

ebay just put this on their Announcement Board.

***Hurricane Isabel***
Date: 09/19/03 Time: 09:55:10 AM PDT

Large areas of the East coast have been dramatically impacted by Hurricane Isabel, which hit the coast yesterday. Many people have been evacuated from their homes due to the storm and subsequent flooding, and power is not available in some areas. The ability for eBay members in these areas to communicate, ship items, send payments and perform other trading-related activities is severely limited.

eBay encourages members in the Community who may have trading partners in this region to use patience for the next several days, and we send our best wishes to those in our Community who are being affected.

Regards,
eBay

I am pleased that EBAY placed that announcement!
If these bidders/sellers get negatives for late payment/shipment, it should be grounds for removal!

We need for those involved in the areas to check-in to let us know they are OK!

Actually, it is closer to 4 million without power in North Carolina, and the Mid Atlantic region, including VA, MD and DE. But my deadbeat bidder this week is from Minnesota......go figure!

did your deadbeat try to blame it on the hurricane?

No, not a hurricane, but the same old "check is in the mail, but it must have gotten lost", and this started long before the hurricane hit. Since we are in the Washington DC area, I can tell you that there was no mail delivery today to the local Post Office, and no home delivery. This hurricane was definitely not overated, as the OP stated. We have so many 100 ft. trees down in the woods behind the house, as well as one that grazed the garage, that we may never have to buy firewood again in our lifetime. The number of people without power, as of the local news tonight, is 4.5 million.

We had power all throughout but just two blocks away they didn't. (Feel very lucky for that.) Still no water most of today. Its running now, but dirty and contaminated.

There was one or two gas stations open today, thats it! And there were lines all around them!

They are cleaning up the streets and areas of debris and trees, but most everything was closed today, even though it was a bright sunny day. (Almost like nothing ever happened!)

The banks ATM's were down and I didnt understand that as I have Internet access and I kinda thought they run on the same lines? But some place got hit worse than others.

I'm one of those in the Baltimore/DC area without power.

When it went out for the final time (it'd been flickering and had actually gone out for 30 seconds) last night at midnight, I sat there and prayed that it just hadn't corrupted my quicken file.

BGE can't tell us when they're coming to fix our neighborhood. They just say "sometime". I'm currently at work, and we're on generator. Pepco tells us 5-7 days. Hopefully there's enough gas in the generators to last that long.

We were lucky. One of our trees fell on the house last night. It (thankfully) fell such that the top limbs caught the corner of the addition. No damage. A neighbor down the street had their power cut off when a tree fell on the power line that went from pole to house. Snapped the line from the house.

Between sunspot.net and washingtonpost.com there's some pretty interesting pictures. Especially the snowplow plowing through the water in Inner Harbor.
