Traditionally it has been late June, so keep your eyes on the ebay announcement boards. Usually they give 24-48 hours notice.

June 20th as sure as pasture manure. All 10 day maximum duration auctions will end on the last day of June and the close of the second fiscal quarter. The graphs and charts will be as rosy as Meg's cheeks for the board meetings. Corporations always compare year-ago statistics and once they start skewing the stats with free listing days they can not stop.

Come on guys... eBay has NEVER given out any warning for these things. 24 hours notice at best. They'll NEVER tell a week ahead of time.

The whole point of FLD's (From eBay's point of view) is to BUILD the number of listings. If all the sellers know next Friday is going to be free, the listings will completely evaporate between now and next Friday, and their overall total total will drop.

But my magic eight-ball says that the next FLD will be on June 27th.

A) It'll boost the listings for the fiscal quarter.

B) Thursday is a big incentive for the FLD'ers to spend a dime on a ten-day listing.

I'd also go as far as to say it will be either 27th or not at all. (Until after Christmas anyway)

replaymedia,
The last free listing day last Christmas time, they did give Advance notice. It was about 30 hours ahead of time. You just have to be watching for it. Not sure where you got a week ahead of time out of any of the posts. I do agree with you and bids that it most likely will be a Thursday though. Just which one?

I'm still betting on the 20th myself. Historically, this is the safest bet of all.

Wouldn't eBay rather boast of a few million extra listings for the eBay live in Anaheim event?
Historicaly there have been about 2 million extra listings and double listings for any item are also free. This time I predict there will be at least 4 million listings before the eBay system shuts down from being overloaded. If eBay ever does stop the free listing days it will be because it can not handle the load with its crappy equipment and does not like that embarssment.

Anaheim, Shmanaheim...

It's all about stock prices, accountants and end-of quarter listings. Every FLD comes at the end of eBays financial quarterlies (Final week of June or December).

It *WONT* be the 20th, cause then the 7 day listings will be over on the 30th, which is the day that counts for the financial statements.

If I had to do a second guess of my own prediction of the 27th date, I'd go with the 25th. But I'm betting eBay will be greedy enough to go for the 10-days-fora-a-dime option, of which only the 27th makes any sense.

I'd go with June 20th also. That way they get the advantage of the .10 they'd get for a 10 day auction which would mean a Sunday closing which is preferable to many. There will ofcourse be those who want to save a dime and go for the 7 day but that has the advantage of reducing the load and lessening the prospect of some part of their system collapsing which it might do anyway given past performances Think the statistics they provide to Wall St. is more important than what they have to boast about in Anaheim.

I certainly hope they don't choose the 27th. That would have all the auctions closing on the 4th of July weekend. Ugh!

AND WHEN WILL THE FREE LISTING DAY BE?? for those who have not voiced yet??...I bet it will be anounced on June 25th for the 27TH...HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

I think ebay only gives about 12-15 hours notice of a FLD or else nobody would run an auction the day before for pay if there was an anouncement of a FLD in 2 days. eBay doesn't want June 19th to have 2 million auctions paid for and 10 million on the 20th that are free.
I predict that 9 AM PDT on June 19th the official announcement will be made. By noon of the 20th the listing system will be hopelessly broken for the rest of the day. AW listing service will be broken again like it was on the last FLD. History repeats itself over and over.

I thought I would revive this subject to see if anyone had any "inside tips". I will be prepared and if it doesn't happen...oh well...I have a lot of descriptions ready for the fall.

There are no 'inside tips'. There is historical data or past performances and that is what most people go on because that's all there is.
