a few days ago i posted several auctions for contact lenses. the kind youd wear to clubs or for halloween. non prescription of course. within 2 hours after posting them i already have multiple bids on most of them. the next morning i find an email stating that i was in violation of ebays listing rules for prescription items, and they were removed. i emailed them stating they were not prescription and i could not find any rule against listing non prescription lenses. i also asked them about the other listing for contact lenses and they stated those were under investigating but 3 days later they are still up. tho mine were removed almost immediately. ebay still has yet to address my statement that they were not prescription. this seems quite unfair to me. id like to list them but with ebays approval. any suggestions? or has something like this happened before to anyone else?

What category did you list them in? Did you state clearly in the auction that they were non prescription lenses?
Sorry I can't help but I know the answers to these questions may be helpful as to finding the problem.

i listed them under the slightly unusal category. i wasnt sure where to list them so i just listed it where all the others were listed at and yes i did state they were non prescription. tho the other listings (not mine) did not state this, that is what erks me is that i was very specific and i got targeted so to speak and didnt seem to get "investigated" like the others are supposedly being.

Make sure nothing else in the listing is against the rules and relist. The only time ebay cancels an auction is when someone complains. Did you have trouble with a buyer recently? Or maybe another seller of the same item or type of item?

i had trouble with a seller but she wasnt selling the same things. both of her ebay names were unregustered but who knows maybe shed be childish enough to make a new name and screw with me. i paid her over a month ago for 3 auctions and never received my stuff. anyone who buys sanrio stuff from ebay may know who it is. but thats not the point.

There are lots of people have trouble with the arbitrary and inconsistant whims of eBay. The service is about what you get in a fast food drive through.
If you want to be the one to correct it in a court of law we will all applaud you. I am not up to the battle, and that is the only action that would matter to them.

sn0bbish--
Probably what has happened to you is that some seller regarded you as a competitor, and reported you to eBay in order to reduce the competition. The "other listings" may still be there because nobody has reported them... eBay (in general) does not "go looking" for listing violations.
Same sort of thing happened to me. All that it takes is for somebody to interpret one of the rules against you. If you are "sn0bbish" on eBay, then your current auctions have too many links to external sites:
* Two different links to Auctionworks
* One link to PayPal
* One link to BidPay
* One link to eBay Payments (BillPoint)
One can "interpret" the eBay rule on external links to find the Auctionworks links and PayPal/BidPay links as excessive and over the limit.
Don't shoot the messenger-- I don't have a problem with those auctions. But it's enough of a "violation" for somebody else to report those auctions for cancellation. Sorry, but that's eBay.

gravid : i have no intentions on taking someone to court over this if that is what you are implying. its nit that big of a deal just annoying.
kenzy : thanx for the info. it was stated to me by ebay that it was a listing violation but oh well. i just put the items in my store.
thanx all who replied.

I was suspended today due to listing some Chanel items I found at a thrift store. It is not worth it to me if Ebay keeps stopping my auction for everything I list. They also stop me from selling a purse. They have lost me as business customer.I told them I am not a bootlegger and I find these things at the thrift stores . I guess Chanel got Ebay to suspend me.

Vickrose,
Did they warn you first? I always panic when I hear about people getting suspended. I have had 3 or 4 auctions pulled by ebay's "whim". Same scenario - someone else has the exact same thing listed. One was a Microsoft product so they gave me Microsoft's email (the "police" email) and I asked them why they pulled it. Ebay has always been good about emailing me with the "corrections" that I can put in the description to make them "legal" and I've complied and haven't had a problem yet.
SnObbish - I would keep emailing ebay until they tell you what the problem was.

ive emailed them and have yet to receive a reply.
the other auctions are still there so this makes no sense at all.

Snobbish,
First I listed a famous purse and didn't know it was a no-no and they ended my auction then I listed a Chanel purse and had 5 bidders and stop it and I ran across the Chanel Paris scarf at a thrift store and my mom told me to buy it which she has been selling for 4 years. Then they warned me and ended it. But I haven't done anything since unless I have something else on there but they didn't stop just one they ended everything. I have selling since Nov.and I have learned the hard way. I haven't decided to continue with restatement. My sales were going down bad and I was hardly making any profits. I was thinking on giving up before this happen.

Funny that this topic came up since yesterday ebay's Safe Harbor emailed me to say that an auction i have up is in violation because i had a famous maker's name in title and said *style* after the name !! It was because I said style ~ They gave me a warning to not do again !!
Last month same thing happened because i had more than 1 Paypal link on my auctions !!
Does anyone know in a nut shell ..... can you list say a vintage hat as ~ Example ~
Audrey Hepburn style Vintage hat ( where you use a movie stars name to relate to it ??)
Or ... is it OK to list say a Liz Claiborne Top ~ if it has that label but is used not new ??
I have done this many times before and never had anyone complain

i dont know i think maybe i should just drop it and not worry about it. seems ebay doesnt feel like respinding to me nor answering my questions as to why they say teh other listings are under investigation tho mine were just yanked. i keep checking the listings and there will be a new listing but its usually gone within a few hours. tho the last listing i understand because tehy actually stated the prescriptions for all 22 opened pairs of contacts. they actually had bids. why would someone want someone elses used prescription lenses?!

sn0bbish I tried looking up every which way I could for contact lenses, and couldn't find the kind your talking about, or anything near it.
I don't see why you can't sell them if they are non prescription.
And yes that is gross, someone trying to sell a pair that that were used yuck!

Snobbish I haven't heard from Ebay since I sent the email yesterday. Even though they told me too. All I have to do to get restated is go over agreements again then step 2 is sign sworn statement I want do it again then send it to them in Ca. I guess I will have to do it if I want to buy on Ebay again.

Since my first post didn't get completed, let me try this again... You cannot say "style" after a trademarked or copyrighted name. I don't know why they pulled it for a theatrical name (Hepburn)- unless they consider that to be trademarked. I see so many auctions that use "style" or "like" that never get pulled. It seems that we are at the mercy of ebay when they decide to enforce their rules and when they don't. On the Chanel issue, I worked for Chanel for a few years while I was in college, and I know that they work very hard to protect their name. The way they figure it is that poorly-made replica Chanel items do damage to the Chanel image. If you are going to sell Chanel on eBay, you are best off proving it's authenticity with pictures of hologram stickers and authenticity cards and "real" Chanel labels. Otherwise your auction will probably get pulled. If you put a picture of a Chanel item in your auction that clearly shows a fake Chanel label, that is also reason for them to pull your auction.

I've learned my lesson will never sell Chanel no matter on Ebay but have sold at Antique Show twice to unload what I have bought. I rarely find Chanel at thrift stores but have found only 3 items at this one thrift store. I guess I need to study more from telling the real from fake.

When Safe Harbor emailed me ( see earlier post ) I returned their email and asked why are you picking on me when there are approx 10 other auctions with LIKE before the same name brand I had
They said they do not go looking for these violations, that other ebayers report you !!
Probably someone who sells same type of items !!
not gina50 on ebay
