Help! I save all my photo's on cd's and last week I started getting an error message:

em-exec has commited a fatal error and will be shut down. Close all programs and restart the computer. If this continues contact your vendor.

It didn't seem to affect anything on the computer so I just closed the message and ignored it. But, when I started to save my pictures to cd I discovered the cd writer won't work. It will read from the drive but it won't format a disk and it just gives an error message about no disk space when I try to record to a new disk. I have tried several brands and blanks so I know it is not defective disks and think it must have something to do with the other error message I get at start-up.

Anyone know what em-exec is? What it controls or what program it might be attached to? I reinstalled the cd writer but that did not fix the problem.

Lindajean,

em-exec is mouse software. See the following page for more information:

You may want to re-install your mouse software and see if that fixes your problem. Other problem you may have is disk-space on your hard drive. How much available space do you have? If you're close to full.... empty the C:Windows\Temp folder and the the C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Folder. This should clear up some space for you. Depending on your CD burner software, it may need hard drive space to be available so that you can burn the CD's. Hope this helps, and Good luck!

I assume from your statements that even if you put a CDR disk in (as well as the CDRWs) that the burner does not detect the blank.

I doubt it's the mouse software unless say it is wacking something else when it goes. I also doubt the space issue because unless the space you have remaining is practically nil, the program should at least load and detect the blank.

With any problem like this, the software you're running, the OS, RAM and the type of drive you are using is important. There are a lot of problems with burners in W2K and there are a lot of problems with EZ CD-Creator. The combo may determine the fix

I assume the burner is an internal IDE drive right? USB or firewire or scsi burners have their own set of problems.

Did you POWER DOWN the PC? Yamaha burners and the ones made by them get their logic circuits wacked and then do not detect blanks. Warm reboots do not clear it. You have to power of for a minute or 2.

Oh, and a word about mouse "software". Most of this stuff is to do things the majority of users never do: ie hold these 2 buttons down and drag and the mouse does this, do this and it does THAT, etc. Either that or you can get a cute purple mouse cursor etc. If you do not use any of that stuff, just don't install it and let Windows run the mouse.
