I JUST TRIED TO USE HTML PAYPAL BUTTON SECTION AND PAYPAL DOES NOT ALLOW US TO CHARGE SHIPPING PER EACH ITEM BUT RATHER BASED ON A PECENTAGE OF TOTAL DOLLAR COLLECTED. IF YOUR SELLING LETS SAY A 20 CENT ITEM AND THE CUSTOMER USES THE BUY IT NOW BUTTON YOU MUST CHARGE THE CUSTOMER A PERCENTAGE OF THE GROSS SALE BUT NOT WHAT IT ACTUALLY COSTS TO SHIP. IN ORDER TO SHIP WITH DELIVERY CONFIRMATION SHIPPING RATES SOME TIME EXCEED THE FLAT PERCENTAGE RULE THAT YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO IMPOSE ACROSS THE BOARD. PLEASE ADVISE HOW THIS IS TO BENEFIT SELLERS?

The issue is for people who own websites and use paypal buy it now buttons. We can no longer set our own shipping rates based on weight or volume of order. We must charge a percentage of the sale or a flat amount. My issue with this is that if a customer wants to buy $1.99 item we must charge a flat rate of $3.90 to cover priority mail delivery confirmation which is fine. However we use to be able to charge $3.90 for the first item and 50 cents for each additional item. Now we must charge a flat rate for shipping regardless of weight or size of order. I cant comprehend this new feature.

Let me try to help. The old Web Accept html that was generated for purchase buttons provided for a fixed shipping cost for a single item and an optional additional fixed amount for each subsequent item.
For some inexplicable and irrational reason this has been changed to a "shipping calculation" based on a new set of "shipping preferences".
The new "shipping preferences" allow for the shipping calculation to be based solely on the PRICE of the item!! The only selections available are a percentage of the price (tiered by price ranges) or a fixed dollar amount (tiered by price ranges).
It is absurd to believe that shipping costs always relate to the price of an item.
Please look into this and at least restore as an option the old way.
I am assuming that old code still functions and that we will be able to continue to use that and generate new buttons using the old code.

Thanks for putting this problem in perspective. We need to be able to charge freight for the first item purchased and a subsequent charge for each additonal item the customer may order based on weight. Many items have different weights that vary from ounces to pounds that sell for the same ball park price. This flat rate shipping or percentage shipping will not work for my business and I was just getting attached to the old paypal way. Please let us use the old feature or at least give us the option to use it.

I guess we can copy and clip our old code and not use the paypal generating code system to defeat this?

Attn: All auction sellers and website owners..
your business is under attack due to a ridiculous shipping rate / % calculation system imposed by paypal
i strongly suggest we unite and bombard paypal with emails condeming this decision and demanding a return to the previous system where the seller/ website owner was allowed to charge shipping based on their own requirements.
here is the email link to use to send paypal your strongly worded opposition to thier
new shipping rate calculation system
[email protected] ([email protected])
thanks

I think the paypal staff has been drinking the same water as Ebay management. This new shipping calculator is terrible and the old option for freight calculations need to return.

These are our businesses. Paypal has no right to order what we charge for postage. I sell silver and gold charging for silver ranging from $9.00 to $17.00 shipped usps regular mail $1.00. Gold I ship priority mail for $3.50 plus insurance. I cannot go with paypal's stupid shipping rates. This is my business and it's up to me what I charge. Will call postmaster to determine if it is even legal what paypal is doing. Will keep in touch with reply.
