BTW - I said Perry would be out of contention by Halloween and I was accurate. He had his peak when he threw his hat in, and shortly after he opened his mouth for the country to see, he nosedived into obscurity.

Last I checked, Buddy Romert had more votes in New Hampshire than Rick Perry. That is sad because Buddy couldn't even get into one debate.

And I notice no rebuttal from Toolhound defending their bumper sticker mantras and how the wealthy dodge paying taxes.

You just answer your own question-they make their money differently.
As for me,it does not bother me at all if I pay more income tax than a CEO or a drug kingpin or a roadside worker or garbage collector.
I dont spend my time and energy trying to find out how much everyone pays, esp if I dont even know them.
Life is too short to worry about others,I PAY MY TAX,MAKE MY MONEY,AT THE END OF THE DAY,IF I STAY IN THE GREEN,I AM HAPPY,VERY HAPPY !

hwa - there is no reason for you to add input if you don't care that someone who uses tax loopholes pays less than half of what you pay, yet earns much more.

I'm not even sure why you brought up a 10% flat tax that doesn't exist. Not intending insult, but sometimes your input just boggles the mind.

I am just using an example,10% tax,I dont mean flat tax across the board,I mean by the time you come out of the annual tax maze, you end up having a 10% tax rate,it could start as 35% but ended up as 10%,you know how smart those CPA accountants can be.
IRS does not have the man power to go after every tax cheaters,or udnerpayers, they go after the ones who will yield them the most reward.
If these ceo or drug kingpin or las vegas high rollers end up paying a paltry 10% and do it in a legitimate way, more power to them.
If they can do this every year, then they should write a book or go on a talk show and show us how to do it.as we sure would like to know.

It does not matter what you and I think of Perry or when he should quit the race,he is bankrolled to run and he is doing it,we are not his payroll master,he can stay in the race as long as money does not run out.
If someone pays me a million dollars to stand outside Tiffany and say hello to everyone who walks by,I will be happy to do so,no matter what people think.
In fact I can stand outside Walmart,Kmart,Target,99 cents only store,Sally May Beauty Supply as long as I am paid handsomely.

Shag.
You baffled me with your comments that Walmart of the world use the highway with their heavy trucks .
Please do not talk with your mouth full, for whom the bells toll?
Why are these trucks on the highway?
So they can bring you all the bargains money can buy, yes, please do not live in a glass house and throw rocks, have you been to a Walmart lately?
If I recall your earlier posts, you are fond of antiquiking in outlying thrift shops and garage sales and bring back troves of old and mid mod furnitures and lamps etc and make a killing reselling them.So I see Wlamrt trucks are not the only vehicles on the road !

No, actually I haven't been to a Wal Mart lately. Unlike Walmart, my business paid above minimum wage to our employee. We pay our taxes, as do I. I am very happy to pay taxes for the quality of life we have here. With that said, I do not think corporations, especially very wealthy corporations should be getting government subsidies and writing off as much as they do. If they want to splurge, then by all means splurge... unfortunately the tax laws allow them to write off anything in the name of a business expense.

I have to manage our business in a way that requires that we don't spend money frivolously. Corporations write off so many frivolous items that takes away money from the rest of us and requires us to pay higher taxes to make up for all of those deductions.

That means that companies like General Electric gets a tax refund instead of paying taxes on their profits. They are writing off extremely lavish lifestyles. They are paying CEO's and upper management through stock options that allows these people to avoid paying taxes on their wealth. These CEO's avoid paying Social Security and employment tax rates like most people have to pay.

You want to know why we are so broke? These businesses have lobbied their way through so much deregulation and tax loopholes that it is the middle class who are paying for their ability to live this lifestyle.

Local and state governments are bribing businesses to start in their area... something else that is wrong.

The system is corrupt, and if you want to pretend it isn't happening, then go ahead and keep your head in the sand, but don't go out of your way to chastise people for taking a few hundred bucks in food stamps or unemployment benefits. If you suspect people are doing something illegal, by all means report them.

I know a lawyer who worked for the IRS for many years and later joined a national law firm.
One day we all sat around and talked about how great we are and what a wonderful life we are having and he looked at me and said -the tax law in this country is such that the middle class is screwed and there is no way out of it !
Middle class constituents are the sitting ducks ready to be plucked,in fact we can get paranoid and argue there is a worldwide conspiracy that the goverments of JAPAN,UK,CANADA,ITALY,GERMANY,USA and all the developed world groom us so they can tax us.
Where else can they count on a steady stream of revenue coming into their treasury coffer in a timely manner .since most of us work for companies as what the Japanese called 'salaried man',our paycheck stub shows assorted deductions at federal, state and city levels plus SS and health insurance premium.
Some one has to pay their bills and it has to be a visible large group which can benefit from the eonomy of scale ,by economy of scale , I dont mean yours or mine,I mean large enough for the govt to invest in hardware and software and other infrastruture to faciliate the collecting of such revenue.
Yes,payroll deduction, sales tax at the cash register, boogeyman on your IRS audit.welfare people dont get audited, nor do people who make minimum wage ,it is middle class and above-the lawyers and doctors and entrepreneurs .professionals who have the luxury to claim deductions and owe a 30 years mortgage and take tax loss on their stock and bond portfolio.
The range of middle class in this country is a broad spectrum, there are folks who operate and sold their 10 drycleaners and sit on milions of dollars and claim to be middle class, there are middle class household with net worth of 50 millions plus and they still walk around and said they are middle class?
As for those whom you think is not paying their fair share of tax,it has to do with the tax law and their current tax situation, not all CEOS start work on day one and made Ceo the next day,his tenure as ceo usually last from 5-10 years so this is not a permanent situation, neither are the drug dealers who ended up in jail or the las vegas rollers who make and lose fortunes.
Even for plain middle class folks like us,we have good year and bad year, one year we may dig up more deductions and cliam victory and the next year we have little to declare.
Back to your argument,if I can read your thoughts, you want the ceos of the world and the cash rich corporations to pay their tax, then go talk to the tax man and see if they can come up with something.
But like Ebay rules, rule number 160,001 may say you cant do this on second tuesday but you can only do this if your skin is blue, some of us will find a way to turn our skin blue to list something which Ebay is trying to ban, ditto with tax rules.

I think I would like to see Shag & Hwahwa on a TV Debate. Even though you appear at times to be on opposite sides at other times you don't!!

I would find it more interesting than the organised and rehearsed nonsense that comes out of Politicians mouths on such occasions both in your Country and here in Canada!
