The Thai made a lot of celtic silver jewelry and the Chinese churn out porcelain hinged boxes ,the so called limoge and marked them on the bottom 'made in Limoge,China'.
There is no place in China called Limoge.
Finally the French limoge industry went to intl court and claimed Limoge is a city in France and only porcelain hinged boxes made in Limoge,France can be called Limoge and they won.
They will go to trade shows and examine the pieces made in Thailand,UK,China,Portugal etc and make sure they are not referred to as 'LIMOGE'.
But it was too little too late, the price of a genuine limoge has already plummeted,as many collectors feast on fake limoges paying as little as 3.95 a piece!

You also forgot the Chinese made Roseville pottery supposedly made from the original molds. There was a flood of them being sold. Do not know but I would imagine that depressed the price of original Roseville considerably and discouraged anyone new wishing to collect it.

They do need precise instuctions on duplicating some of this stuff however. The biggest laugh I got was when I saw some new hand made American Indian type turquoise jewelry that was made in China. Apparently they were told to sign the pieces the way it is being done now and in the recent past so they stamped their names - English translations of Chinese names I guess - mostly flowers with an adjective in front - like Precious Rose etc.

I can't believe this topic has gone 35 posts. I don't know anything about genuine hand made Amish quilts.....but I know enough to say that you can't buy one for $23. Both sellers know that they are selling imported quilts. This kind of stuff hurts Ebay. How can any seller selling a genuine hand made Amish quilt compete against this misrepresentation. Quality is not the point. It's possible the Indian or Chinese quilts are the same or better quality. But there are buyers that want a genuine Amish quilt for other reasons beyond quality.

Very puzzling. She seems so sincere, Her customers are happy, judging from her feedback. Yet we know her items are fake and unless she's an imbecile, she knows it too. Very puzzzling!
