"Kooky Burns? 77 Sunset Strip TV show? "
You may be right Linda-Those shows were in the mid 60's and I was dating all the time,so I rarely watched those horsesh*t shows, although I knew of them.Kooky Burns real name was Ed Burns. That stupid song "kooky, kooky, lend me your comb" was about him, although I cant remember the female singers name who sang it.I look at TVland and cant believe all the garbage that was playing on tv in the 60's.There was 2 shows that I like which was "Shindig and Hullabaloo"
The only reason I watched them was to see the
rock stars of the day,as I like music so much.

He is the most powerful wizard going and to prove that, he left the world... a book written by ghost writers.
He loves judging people - he's probably judging you right now, Pi.
If you're lucky, you'll accumulate enough points to get to see him in heaven, but if not, you'll burn in a vat of molten rock for eternity.

Another great post up there, Prof!
Linda, you're wrong. I don't enjoy putting religion down, but I do enjoy exposing the hypocrisy in religious people - the ones that claim to follow God's teachings via the Bible yet don't.
These people don't seem to think it's wrong to say they have God on their side, while committing crimes against these teachings and the 10 Commandments on a daily basis.
These religious people lie, cheat, screw around, do drugs, etc., while pointing the finger at others telling them not to lie, cheat, etc. These people give religion/God a bad name, not the ones that question the existance of God and his teachings.

Song was song by Edd Burns himself. Show was in the 50's=== 58 to early 60's.

Linda, Helen is right. Your first quote was made in jest, especially after Replay made the suggestion I might regret my beliefs if the real God knew how I felt. (Yikes.)
As for your second quote, I don't see what the problem is. I don't like hypocrits. Especially ones who have to announce to the rest of world how religious they are on one hand yet are secretly doing the things they say they're against on the other hand. Why is that wrong to say that?

When someone claims to be a so-called Christian and acts worse than someone who just don't care about giving an account for their actions. In my book they are a pain in the tail and I hate being around them.

Linda, Do you perceive the same schism that I see between your political agenda and the traditional values of Christianity such as love and compassion for your fellow man. I suppose I could be wrong but I see the right wing agenda as downright immoral. You seem to want to brand every effort to help the poor, improve health care and educational advantage as socialism and not worthy of consideration.
I used to consider myself a Christian and I still know that most Christians are good people. It's so unfortunate that the name is being besmirched by a group of ruthless people whose only goal is to advance their political agenda
posted on February 28, 2006 06:17:03 AMLinda, you're being evasive again. Show me something I said that offended you or Christians in general, not the generaization of a whole thread - that's if you have time.
Well kraft, I am not Linda. But I will nutshell your problem. As I recall (and since I dont save nor search these threads you or someone else will have to find it. Because I Do know I read it) You asked what God can do for you that you cannot do for yourself? With the implication being you do not believe God can do anything for you that you cannot do for yourself. IMO, and as explained to your 80 thousdand times, the God Christians believe in do believe he does something for them that they, of themselves, cannot do.
Now, also for the zillionth time. Are there con artists in the God game? Yes there are. Are there people who try their best and still get caught up in fleshly/earthly things?
Yes. Does your way of thinking make you better than them? No. That is your whole issue with it. You dont understand it, never got a call for it, to embrace it, and you feel less than about it so you pound it out and about, for years and years.

On top of that we have Bush touting himself as a Christian while supporting torture, illegal war and corporate greed with lies to the American people.

That's an interesting reveal about yourself, Helen. I find it interesting because, and correct me if i'm wrong but, don't you now consider yourself an Atheist?
How does one go from Christianity to Atheism or for that matter how does one just stop being a Christian altogether?? Were you just pretending to be a Christian?
posted on February 28, 2006 01:39:52 PM Piinthesky, I grew up in the South where I received some encouragement from my family to attend church. As a child, I grew up just assuming that I was a Christian without really knowing what Christianity entails. When I moved away from that area and attended school and college I became an atheist.

Amazingly, it was a Mississippi Sunday school teacher who first caused me to question a belief in God, when she taught the class that listening to popular music and dancing was a sin and by doing so we would all go to hell.

Well I just popped in to see if kd had ever provided any proof for her OP statement in this thread.
Nope....sure hasn't.
That term is slung around a lot here lately. Who puts them down? In what way? Any examples?

helen said: "moved away from that area and attended school and college I became an atheist."
There's the proof - don't send your child away to a radically liberal school....everything you taught them will be changed and they'll even become atheists. LOL LOL
helen the difference you have never been able to see between our political positions....I'll repeat NEVER is that your position is the government has to do everything for us. The government has to take care of all of us.
And...my position is just the opposite. I want LESS government involvement.
I don't want the gov. to take my money and make the decisions how they choose to redistribute it - and have it all depend on which party happens to be in office. I want to give to those I want to...I don't want to give to the government who is like a leech...just keeps sucking more and more from the middle class.
But you never have been able to understand/grasp that....so you continue on with all your nonsense about how Christians don't act Christian-like.

Oh and here comes helen's mini-me again. LOL LOL LOL like clockwork.
Nope helen...I believe he's a friend of kd's...who just so happens to be gay...and likes to post about things coming our my ass all the time. HIS fixation....not mine. But I'm sure you'd approve....you approve of most vulgarity that anyone says to me. It's just who you are...your character...poor as it is, imo.

Double, as I've been trying to tell you, that's not what I'm implying at all. Again, I was talking about God living inside each person. If God is inside you then there's nothing an external God would be good for. Do you see what I mean?
You think God is a super-human man that lives in another world. I think God is part of everything living and is not an external individual. Just a difference of opinion.
Ooops, linda. I'm sorry that I forgot to post the url to your fun thread. You should pop in here more often so that we can stay on the same page. But I'll do my very best to keep up.
