What if we undercharge shipping?
Say if shipping by USPS PRIORITY is 4.65,we will charge 3.50 and still ship Priority, will we get 5.0 for shipping?
(considered great packing and shipping promptly).

hwahwa: been there, done that. No one seems to notice if you lose money on shipping, only if you "made" a few cents.

I don't view placement in the search order as an exceptional reward that has to be earned. I see it as something I pay eBay a good deal of money for.

He mentioned that if you live on the coasts, east or west, your shipping may seem higher than if you live in the middle of the country

The original way-back-when purpose of the Item Location field in an auction was to allow buyers to compare shipping between sellers so they could choose one relatively close to them.

Oddly, eBay backed off requiring people to put actual geographical location in that field. I put CA there -- that's specific enough.

What follows is a guess.

I think that some buyers, "enlightened" by online merchants that ship their whole order for $2.95, are telling eBay they want that same kind of ease in ordering. They don't want to have to go to the effort of finding the best shipping deal on eBay for each thing they buy. And John Donahoe, whose eBay Express was dead on arrival, now wants to move the core site toward the shopping-cart experience.

I cannot figure out why they hired this guy.

eBay changes mean fewer choices for buyers. Here's why.

"I wouldn't want you as a buyer. You clearly are not capable of rating a transaction fairly."

Really? That's too bad.

I am an excellent buyer. I read everything very carefully. I examine the photos very carefully. I only bid and BIN if I agree with ALL aspects of the listing.

I pay immediately and if it arrives with two weeks, I'm happy. If it is a book sent via Media Mail and it arrives within a month, I'm happy.

I haven't left a neg or a neut for a seller in years, not since I learned how to read between the feedback lines.

I don't even use the DSRs.

It's a good thing I know where to buy silver jewelry locally or I would be in a real pickle. Whew! ;-}

This I agree with 100%. Discounts, yes, incentives, yes, placement, NO.

I don't care about incentive discounts. Poor visibility is what eBay is threatening for less than stellar feedback. A threat masked by an incentive.

I agree with you. I think it stinks.

(I was not referring to placement incentives.)

Here's another thought, I need to move on, but it's difficult.

How do we know Ebay is acurrately reporting the stars via the 4.7, etc. count???

I have asked some of my repeat buyers and they claim they are leaving all 5s.But my #s do not change. How do we know Ebay is accurately tabulating these suckers?? 4.8s across the board maybe impossible to attain by design.

I just looked at Foxy_facets 's rating,
if we are talking about the same Foxy_facets,she has a total of 1435 negs and her rating for shipping and handling is 4.3.
Here is what her customers have to say about her-
-extreme shipping
-poor quality, not as nice as the picture
-when you bought many items from her and returned one,you are negged on all items.
She is a wholesaler and direct importer and she sells mostly beads, like 3 beads at a time,so is $3.95 too much for Ebay el cheapo bidders?
If the bidder buys 6 beads from her, then shipping will be $5.94,and if she buys 9 beads,it will be $7.93.
I doubt she is going to get a 5.0 or 4.8 in shipping?
Live help on 3 beads? She should focus more on the wholesale side of her business, like finding more retailers to sell to.
