I posted a thread in eBay Outlook a week or more ago, asking questions about some WWII photographs that I acquired.

Something nice has happened. This photo has the soldier's name, hometown and the division he served in on the back. I have located and talked to someone in that town who is quite probably this soldier's nephew. He's going to do some checking and get back to me. He said he had two uncles that served and one was killed in the war. I told him if he could find out for sure if the soldier pictured is his kin that I'd send him the photograph. It would be worth a lot more to him than the few dollars I could get. The soldier is holding a Filipino baby.

That's soooo cool! I collect old photographs - mostly of children from the early 1900's. It would be such fun to find some of the families these belong to. Keep us posted please!

Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

A little off the subject, but I am just horrified to see the old family photos that are sold in local auctions here. Some of the truckloads come from Colorado or the east coast, so it isn't just local folks selling old pictures. The big photos are beautifully framed, and people buy them for the frames. There are also photo albums full of old faces and pictures.

I've started labeling EVERY SINGLE photo that comes our way, name, place, date. And I've learned through experience that future generations aren't nearly as interested in your trip pictures, scenic views, etc. It has caused us to cut 'way down on the beauty shots we take on trips.

I was given a photo album with WWII photo's. Alot of military personel, planes landing on aircraft carriers, and...death. Some of the pictures are pretty gruesome. The woman who gave them to me told me her husband was a photographer for the Navy.

I had thought of posting them on ebay but I like looking at them and the history they hold.

I'm glad you may have found a relative. My photo's aren't labeled (except for a few with Navy stamps on back) so I doubt I would ever find the relatives.

What an interesting story!
And the photo is great~very sweet.
I agree about the sadness in seeing photos sold at auction. I also feel this way when I see the baby clothes so carefully saved and little momentos that obviously meant something to the people who saved them~only to be shuffled thru at the auction.
A person's entire lifetime sold off in 5 hours to the highest bidder~it really puts things in perspective.
