Actually I've found out that a cheap tent trailer in a friends back yard is more comfortable than a car.*

I was homeless once many, many years ago. Part of the apartment building I was renting caught on fire and they condemned the whole place. I bartered with a friend. I stayed at her home until I got on my feet and exchanged house cleaning and baby sitting for rent. Trust me, that was enough to get me really hustling for another place to live! She was the messiest person I ever met!!! Another friend stored my belongings in exchange for yard work.

The tent trailer idea is a good one! It has to be cheaper than renting a car. Normally, you have to have ID, including credit cards and a home address, to rent a car anyway.

hwahwa, is it because of the fires down in TX and OK ?

I've slept in a car years ago, and I wouldn't recommend it at all. We were driving non stop, and pulled over and *tried* sleeping. yuck

Sleeping in a tent, tent trailer or camper would be ideal.

But I think renting a car, and then sleeping in it, may be the same or more than a motel room. Esp if there are Motel 6 or Super 8 (or whatever they are called in other parts of the country. They may give you a lower price if you tell them you want it for a week or more.

say you are in a town looking for a job,and renting a car to job hunt by day and sleep at nite, save the motel bill.
Does Walmart let their customers sleep in the parking lot??
That would really improve their image!

Well...hwahwa...I sure hope this isn't a problem you're having to deal with. But whomever it is needs to asap call their county services department and get some temp. help/funding from them. Most counties have programs in place so no one has to become homeless. Just have to get the ball rolling immediately...not wait until they're forced to live in a car or tent.

Should I ever find myself in that situation....I think I'd stay with friends/family until I could get a job and a place of my own.
Meanwhile I'd be finding out what help there was in that particular area.

If I didn't have a car....renting wouldn't be the answer, imo. I'd try and live somewhere where rapid transit or busses were available to me. Cheap transportation.

When my parents divorced, my mother didn't drive and we didn't own a car. We road busses all the time.

hwahwam Yes, I heard that also that Walmarts let campers and RV's overnight in their parking lot. I think its supposed to keep theives and such from breaking in or raising hell there (though they have to have Security guards, I would think)

But I did read that. I would check with Walmart first though.

The reason I asked is that I was watching an interview last nite-this woman wrote a book called 'The confessions of video vixen' and she said she lived in her car for 9 months.
But I agree,a trailer in the backyard of a friend is better,a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Yes they will believe anything you tell them. Just look at the Liberals on this board. Of course the bullsh*t story and a joint.

I don't smoke dope anymore so I don't know what I'd do today. Maybe get a hotel room or rent a condo or something.

Indeed, a friend in need needs a friend with a Deed.
