what I found when I went to vote this morning. We got to do kindergarten-style voting.

Next to every candidate name & the two prop. votes was the beginning & end of an arrow. We were given black pens to color in the middle part of the arrow next to our choices!

Wonder if points are given or taken away for neatness?

I'll bet you were coloring outside the lines and thinking out there too.

I'll bet this is in a county where in the next election they can pick up stacks of ballots with ink smeared across all of the arrows and proclaim:

"this is xxxxx county, so this is OBVIOUSLY a vote for ......."

bunni - Do you live in one of the precincts that used the chad style voting machine during the last election? Asking to find out if that's why your precinct went to this method. To avoid a fuss over the ruling those machines weren't to be used anymore. Nothing in your local news/newspaper letting anyone know ahead of time this is the way it was going to be?
-------------

Personally I think I'd rather stick to the chad style machines rather than go to the electronic ones.

I'd rather have the electrontic one. I mean, its like working on a PC, where it asks you AGAIN, Are You Sure? (and they could even put pictures of candidates for people who cannot read) I know that was probably unPC, but there are people who just cannot read!

NTS - I hadn't read that....about them asking 'if you're sure'. hmmmm The only thing I've read is some are worried about their accuracy and/or a way to verify the results.
-------
Pictures are good. That way those who can't speak or read English can vote by pictures. lol The dumbing down of America. Soon we'll be voting by how handsome, or not, the candidates appear in the pictures. oh brother....

Yeah Linda, like the McDonalds register screens.... pictures of the Big Mac , now you have a picture of HILLARY CLINTON LOL!

Yeah, thats how I heard they work. You touch the screen, and it goes to another, saying something along the lines of 'Are You Sure'.

What they are really worried about is hackers, hacking the thing and bumping or changing numbers. Well the only time I heard that is the 'computer scientists' wrote that one, Well OK then, all hackers please read the article and get the idea! duh

Linda: I live in San Bernardino County. And the old punch-style ballots have always been used here when I've voted. Same for when I lived in Los Angeles County.

Frankly, I don't know why they made the switch. And what really cracked me up was when I finished voting & slid the ballot into the box, I made a comment to the poll worker sitting there about how silly this style of voting is. Her comment? This has been a very expensive election. When you consider the HUGE ballots we had to have due to this style of voting (about 12 x 16 inches) compared to the much smaller ballot they could have used with the punch system, you can see where a lot of the money went--to print these monstrosities. The mind boggles...

Oh, yeah--these HUGE ballots were also printed on both sides. Wonder how many people passed up on voting for the two propositions because they didn't think to look on the other side of the ballot?

Last week we were in the local McDonald's and they were trying to train a new fellow. He honestly was too dead-rock-dumb to even use a picture register.
So pictures may not even be an adequate accommodation for some.
