Hi, all. This has worked for me before. I have a set of very very heavy books (3)to list on eBay. I thought I did everything right--listed them as calculated shipping, went through all the little hoops for that category, etc.
The auction started last week, and I didn't even look at it. When the buyer paid, he just paid for the books themselves, no shipping. When I looked at the listing, it was "free shipping." This has happened once before, and it really is irritating; I've had to contact the buyer and explain.
Any clues as to what I've done wrong? Or is eBay just not allowing this any longer? ~Adele

You have to be sure that it does not say "free shipping." this will happen if the last item you listed was "free shipping." you have to be very vigilant. All the defaults or " stickies" seem to favor Ebay.
I mess up when I relist an auction & put it into my store, many times I forget to change the duration & end up only getting 7 days instead of 30 or "good till cancelled" for the same price. My bad, so I need to make sure I change, remove free shipping ( it stays there even when you put in weight) and length of auction / fixed price.
I have learned to take my time even after 14 years.

This is the most irritating thing about listing directly with ebay and it can really cost you some real money as well.
You have to check everything to be sure ebay hasn't picked up your last listing's details.

Well, I've settled the matter now. The very nice buyer understands the problem and has paid for the shipping. (And if he's reading this message, thanks very much, fella!) ~Adele
