My mother was a violin prodigy in the 20s and 30s, and these gizmos (don\\\'t know what to call them) tightened and loosened her violin strings. In her teens she was making music news in the Chicago papers but gave it all up to marry my dad, a minister.
These are probably worth nothing, but perhaps there are buyers out there looking for vintage items like these. What are they called?
