Great Idea...don't know why I never thought of this!

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it.

It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around...after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.....This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

P.S. I am sending this to everyone I know because I think it is fantastic.

Would also be useful for any emergency, such as a heart attack, where you can't reach a phone.

My friend has suggested to her husband that he carry his car keys with him in case he falls outside and she doesn't hear him. He can activate the car alarm and then she'll know there's a problem.

So simple & such a good idea it makes you wonder why you never thought of it yourself.

Also sending this to everyone I know.

Been doing this for years. Used it several years ago in a Florida Rest Area. Hubby was stretching his legs and I watched from the kitchen window (making coffee) a man follow him around the area, cut through semi's to follow him to our actual door. When he accosted hubby I set off the alarm and opened the door and told the Labrador to get him. The tow vehicle was on the back and the Jeep went off like a charm. So many people looked and came to join the fracas.

landotters - did people come quickly? I just wonder, because I've noticed people accidentally setting off alarms (both in parking lots and at home) and no one seems to pay much attention.

Everyone in the close vicinity looked, then when I let the dog out and yelled help...they came like lightning! The truckers helped us keep him confined and the regular traffic called 911. He was arrested for soliciting in the rest stop and was charged with harrassment. No biggie the law felt, but we sure did. Hubby said the guy asked him in the bathroom for money and was told he had none. Hubby figured he was followed back to the RV so the guy could get him at the RV with money. He was really startled when the alarm went off and then the dog jumping almost in his face.

that's great. So often the news tells those horrible stories of no one coming to help when someone is in trouble. Glad that all worked out good for you.
