Loved it. Too bad there's no follow up. I'd like to know what happened to the scammer after the court proceedings.

Judge Judy went for the jugular for sure. The scammer got the maximum. I am surprised she even showed up in court as she has scammed others before this case.

Yeah I would like to know if she went to jail or the IRS got after her and about the other 8 cases against her. she deserves jail time on top of paying the fines and law suits.

Got to LOVE Judge Judy.

I don't watch Judge Judy or any of the others. Are their decisions in any way binding? What court, other than the court of public opinion is she a judge of? What kind of idiot would intentionally go on that show anyhow?

A quick search shows that when both sides agree to appear, they agree to an Appearance fee which is held in escrow. Winner takes the amount awarded and the balance is split.

My recollection (wasn't this covered in an earlier thread?) was that Judy awarded the total mount to the other party, was careful to excessively mention the scammer by name, questioned and threatened her with IRS and child services investigations. No, I don't think the scammer profited from her Judge Judy encounter.

I think that the appearance fee is $5000, which in this case would have made the scammer leave without any money.

It is binding in the sense that both parties agree not to pursue the matter in the courts... just as they would if they agreed to binding arbitration.

Why do they appear? Some people just want to appear on TV, and they are 2 very small notches above the Jerry Springer level.

I'm not sure about that. I think union rules for speaking parts would require some Payment. I would bet the pot was $7000 and the scammer got $1k, and a full face shot as a scammer (lesson not learned).

I think Judge Judy and others qualify as arbitrators and their judgments are binding. I also remember a $5,000 payment to split between the two parties after the amount awarded is deducted from it.

dejapooh,

They DID both get paid, $2500. If all or some of it "goes away" because of a judgment against them, that doesn't mean that they weren't paid.

I thought the same thing when I first saw this a few weeks ago. Yeah! You tell her, Judge Judy! Now, seeing it for a secnd time. Good ole Judge Judy said many inappropriate things that hand nothing to do with the case. It was all for show. I could have said a few choice things to her besides her making babies. That was too much and done just for the theatrics of if all.

It's TV. It's entertainment. It's supposed to be theatrical.

I saw this when it first aired and I agree with paloma91 that Judge Judy was inappropriate in some of her comments. Do I care - NO. The scammer got what she deserved and then some. It's sellers like this that have given ebay a bad name all along.
I saw Judge Judy on The View one time and the other women didn't stand a chance!
