I usually try to respond to my customers the day of the sale or at least the next morning if it closes at night. When I first started Ebay I remember (or read somewhere)that there was a 3 day rule (written or unspoken) that you had 3 days to send the winning bidder info. I had a lady email me 20 times in 2 days and she got very upset that I was not responding. I missed her emails as my email was messed up. I am afraid she is going to give me bad feedback even tho I tried to explain. What's the rule on this?

There is a 3 day "suggestion" by feeBay that buyers and/or sellers contact each other after a sale, but NO rule per se, that neither I nor Ralphie can find ANYWHERE within da rules...

There was a thread not long ago about this and I believe somewhere on eBay it says buyers and sellers should contact each other within 3 days. If a buyer has not contacted me within 3 days I send them a notice and at 5 days I sell to the 2nd bidder or relist the item.
I have found over the years that in 9 out of 10 cases when a buyer has not contacted me within 3 days I am never going to get paid by him.

Toolhound: Finally found it! NOT through any links in eBay, but by googling. Here's the quote (and there's an equal one - somewhere in eBay - about buyers contacting sellers, too). Maybe it's not a "rule," but it is there, and I quote it when I have to re-contact buyers I haven't heard a word from.
"Communicate with your buyer.
"If you use eBay's Checkout service, when your buyer completes checkout, eBay will notify you by email. If you didn't specify shipping and payment details, the buyer can use checkout to request this information. You can also use checkout to send the buyer an invoice.
"If you selected not to use checkout, you should contact the buyer directly using email or phone.
----->>>>"Important: You should contact the buyer directly if you have not heard from the buyer or the buyer has not completed Checkout WITHIN 3 DAYS OF YOUR LISTING'S END." (caps added)

It has been a suggestion by Ebay for as long as I have been on Ebay. However, if you are waiting three days to send info to your buyer, you are doing yourself a dis-service. If I were a buyer and it took you three days to send me the purchase info, I probably would tell you to pound sand too.
You really should respond within 24 hours. Customers are looking for prompt responses and most understand that most people don't sit in front of their computers 24/7. But most do feel that you should at least check your e-mails and ebay sales on a daily basis.

I agree, Stone. I usually contact my buyers within an hour of the auction's end; rarely the next morning. Never later than that. Once I've sent my invoice, I do expect to hear back fairly soon. I usually give it about a week, and if there's been no acknowledgment of the sale, I e-mail and mention the 3-day bit.
The odd thing to me was that I could NOT find mention of this in eBay--anywhere. Not in any of the selling tips or buying tips. I know it's there, probably right under my nose, but I could only find the eBay quote by googling. Go figure.
