I have a dilemma, I have some larger things to list which should do well..but if they are paid for after the 11th the new postal rates are in effect. I have listed them anyway ending on the 7th but with a sentence that says 'shipping costs only effective until May 11th, a new invoice will be sent after that'. Now we know some of the buyers can't read and I am ready to deal with that. My problem is the Vendio calculator won't kick in for the new prices until May 14th (not their problem, that is the earliest they can do that, no complaint about that). So should I take a week off and not start anything until the 14th that has any size to it? I have small things to list and could eat the First Class rate increases if they pay after the 14th. Sorry for the wordiness, just wondered what other people are doing.

Well, how large is large? If it's all priority mail and reasonably small, as in under 3 lbs., I'm simply adding a pound to the weight and trusting that should take care of it with minimum fuss and least amount of losses.

Just back from my shipper who also has a satellite post office. He went to a three hour class on the changes, first time in 33 years they've had a mandatory class for postal workers. For the sellers who are used to dimensional weights, the new rates should not be that difficult. He did warn me that packages will indeed be measured, and any overage will be charged back to the individual post office's revenue!! I.e you probably won't be able to get away with much.

Scratching our heads as well!! At least I am.
Flat rate shipping boxes come to mind as well as just listing smalls.
I'm almost thinking of charging the new rates and refunding as needed.
Does anyone know if Vendio's calculator will update on older item or do we need to do something to get the new rate? What about all of our store items?

I won't have a clue as to what to charge for my DVDs until I take them to the Post office as they are all different thicknesses. I'm going to let my rates stand for awhile as they are enough to cover whatever except for maybe Canada.

Several things I have will require a box that is more than one cubic foot so after the change the minimum charge for zones 1-4 will be the 20 pound rate and zones 5-8 will either be actual weight or 20 pound weight, whichever is higher if I understand it right. So a 6 pound package could go from $10.00 to zone 4 to $17.40, quite a jump that I don't want to cover and I'm not sure a buyer would want to pay.

Endicia sent out a newsletter this morning. Maybe it will help. They also suggest using flat rate boxes.

I listed some items yesterday that will weight around 20 pounds and be shipped Parcel Post. I looked at the new rates to see if I should add some to the cost or tell the bidders that extra will be added to payments recieved after May 11th. I found the new rates are around $2.00 cheaper on most parcel post items over 10 pounds.

Yes, thank you so much glassgrl! My local Post Office still does not have any information and their web side is less than clear.

this has been copied out of a post on the ebay discussion boards this may give you an idea of the mess we are going to come to.

==>Ok I have been spending a lot of time over at the shipping board.
You guys are aware that If you ship anything of moderate to large size (over 12" x 12" x 12"...1728 cubic inches) by Priority Mail to zones 5-8, it will now be charged at "dimensional weight" regardless of actual weight. How to calculate "dimensional weight"?? Multiply height x width x length, divide by 194, round to the next highest whole number, and that's the weight...So, a 12 x 12 x 14 would be 2016 divided by 194 equals 11 Pounds, and if sent to zones 5-8 will cost $17.95 to $26.35, plus insurance and additional services, depending on zone. A 16" x 16" x 16" would be 22 pounds ($24.90 to $35.95)plus insurance and additional services.<==

just think of the clerks in many post offices that are pleasant and try to do the right thing they will miss this and some of these will arrive postage due.

multiple bids will need to be packaged before you can tell what the shipping price wil be.

maybe the post office wants us to get these giant pulverizers amd puree our items so they will fit into the availabe priority boxes
???
