I am parting ways with my business partner so I will have double the expenses. I can get by with my cell phone for awhile until I see how things go, but I need internet hookup. Everything is always more expensive for businesses over residential. This is a small antique business. My building rent is high!!! Any suggestions? Forget getting a new partner. Learned my lesson there.

Time to go shopping. It will depend on where you are located etc. I love my DSL. Below is a link to all or most of the internet providers world wide.

Get a wireless laptop and see if any of your neighbors have an uprotected connection. Can't get any more affordable than that.

Okay, this is where I show my ignorance. The man that last had this building had an Ebay consignment business and had high speed internet service in the building. I have only had dial up at home. Does a laptop have to have any special capabilities to use the high speed service? And I can avoid Quest by finding a different internet provider? I don't really know how this all works.

And don't I have to have a business line with Quest first and then go shopping for an internet provider? Please have patience here!!

Don't know where you're located. I just discovered that I am covered by free wi-fi internet access in Portland OR - it is available in a number of west coast cities but I really depend on Comcast's speed and reliability so will tolerate the high charges.
Edited to add: wi-fi = wireless internet connection = laptop or PC with wireless card.

You can call either the internet provider or WI-FI service and they will tell you what your options are.

Broadband cable or satellite high speed internet access does not require a land line (telephone dial-up). It is generally more expensive than dial-up internet access but much faster. I'm not sure how much your business telephone lines costs - how it would balance.

Here's a good place to search for broadband service:

Just to encourage you, after many years of using landlines, we finally went for DSL and won't go back. Just speaking for myself on my own computer, the increased speed allows me to work more efficiently and much faster, so it's worth it. If we had money difficulties, I'd stay with the landline since it's workable.

I have DSL from my phone provider, they give you a break if you take Dish Network through them. I went back to cable TV because if think Dish network is way overpriced and I really didn't like it.
