This reminds me why I never (okay, almost never) read my email.

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE ME MY POSTIVE FEEDBACK ON MY 3 ITEMS ON 2 OF THEM ITS BEEN 19 DAYS AND 18 DAYS ON THE 3. DONT YOU THINK I DESERVE MY NUMBER OF TRANSACTIONS.
YOU ARE SELFISH
SINCERELY
TINY PLUMBER

I wrote back and said:

That was funny and even funnier when I read the signature. Made me think for some strange reason about that song Tiny Bubbles, well maybe that isn't the name of the song but for some strange reason that played in my mind before I even got to your response back to him. Fluff I think your answer was priceless--LOL you burst his tiny bubble. LOL yes I am strange

LOL, really funny reply.

Poor Tiny either won't get it or figure it's a compliment.

Too bad I can't go into the business of selling feedback, since that seems to be the only thing some people care about. Jewelry? What jewelry?

I don't see why COMMON COURTESY has to be such a big deal...

If a buyer leaves me FEEDBACK, I try to immediately reciprocate -- at least within 24 hours...

If I forget & they remind me, I simply leave FEEDBACK, as opposed to responding with a smirking insult...

Yeah, and you sell, what, 12 items a month? That doesn't put much of a dent in your sitting-around-scratching-yourself-and-farting time, does it?

There's a larger point here.

I ordered some books and DVDs online from Barnes and Noble Monday morning. I had them in my hands Tuesday afternoon. I was so darned happy that I rushed to my computer to leave them feedback...

Oh wait. There is no feedback in real-life retailing.

What happens is that when you buy something from a retailer and you're happy with it, you tend to buy from them again. That used to be good enough for everyone concerned.

But not now, uh-uh. Thanks to the false mystique of eBay feedback, now people want prices so low the profit barely covers the cost of a can of cat food AND they want to be praised to the skies for the whole world to see, so that imaginary and totally meaningless number next to their name can be incremented by one.

It's absurd.

I use the automated feedback system eBay provides. In the shipping notice I send I let them know that the system will give them reciprocal feedback.

I do this for both selling id's. No problems. No questions. AND, more time for sitting around, scratching, etc.

vintageads4u, I also did that until someone left me a positive with a neg remark, so that's when I stopped having it automatic.

Beth, what "automated feedback system" is that?

Oh, you're probably thinking of the one that comes with (what are they calling it these days...) Selling Manager Pro.

I use an automated feedback system as well, not provided by eBay. Well, it's supposed to be automated, but for all I know (and for its many inaccuracies) it could be a couple of stoners at UMass Amherst pushing buttons at random.

One of the problems with "automated feedback systems" is that a non-paying bidder can leave a positive, and when you give a positive in return, you wreck your chances of getting your FVF or relisting credit.

Just remind your customer that leaving feedback is not compulsory. and it is only a courtesy.

out of lurking to clarify:

Feedback is totally unrelated to relisting credits or a refund of fvf's

I believe if feedbacks are exchanged, eBay won't grant a FVF because the transaction is completed.

Nope..the leaving of feedback does not have a part in getting back your end of listing fees. I've had a couple non payers leave me feedback and it's been left automatically to them, and I've still gotten back my fees.

Positive feedback can be used by a bidder to appeal an unpaid item strike.

"Accepted proof of payment
eBay accepts any of the following as proof of payment:

* Copy of a check or money order
*Email communication between you and the seller
*Copy of payment confirmation from PayPal or other payment service

*Proof that the seller left you positive feedback for the transaction – If the seller left you positive feedback, send eBay an email including the item number so that we can verify the feedback."

*Proof that the seller excused you from the transaction"

Ok this is funny. I have a winning bidder on several auctions that is not a problem but I was looking at feedback she has left for others and every one of them has to be automatic feedback as they all read

A*A*A*best buyer*A*A*A+*thanks for you feetback is INPORTANT **MERRY CHRISTMAS**

Well 90% of them read exactly as above, I didn't know you could get feetback. LOL

I love Fluff's reply and may plagiarize it in the future. Also love Zip's post. Am tired of feedback beggars. I try to leave it for newbies but use an automated system that skips a few. As far as feedback in the non-cyber world: I've started saying "Thank you, you've been very helpful" to customer service folks and clerks who have made my day easier. It is amazing to watch them brighten up, like it is nicest thing said to them all day.
