You're better off not listing now.

I've been selling on eBay since December, 1998, and the bidding for me is the slowest I've ever seen. I sell an item here and there, but overall, deader than dead.
My eBay Store hasn't had a sale in nearly two weeks. Auctions only slightly better,
but still lousy.

I haven't listed very much for months nor been around the chat boards. I have some nice items posted and I have one bid on 26 auctions. Has Ebay been this slow for a while??

My sells have been so bad this past 6 months I decided to just let Christmas pass and hope for better come January or February. I have about 2 things I am going to put on but won't bother with rest of the stuff I sell until after Christmas.

I was shopping today on feebay and for someone who says they are going to crack down on excessive shipping they are doing their usual bang up job of it-- NOT!

Well good luck with those of you who are still selling. I am checking the message board here still just to keep in touch and sort of stay in the mood to do something eventually, LOL.

Sales are chugging right along, despite me converting 97% of my listings from core to fixed price.

It's slow but not dead for me. I'm going to do new listings for about another week and then everything is going to my store until after Christmas.

Wow,

If you are going to not list from time to time, now isn't the time. The busy time is from late October until early December. Then a quick period from just after christmas until late January.

I would quit listing from Feb to Sept and start back up in Oct.

The busy time is from late October until early December.

As in most things, depends on what you sell.

CDs, as Jay and Marie have noted, sell well all the time, except for the summer months, when they operate at a loss just to keep an eBay presence.

Jewelry sells all year long. I close down for Christmas because I hate dealing with whiny people, but it might surprise you how many people are buying jewelry on eBay starting December 26.

I am running about average but paying way more to eBay than I used to so my profits are down. Much better than last November when Vendio's mismapping to eBay's API showed many of my listings 'For Local Pick up Only'. In my far distant past employment with a major general products mail-order company, our best month was always January.

Well I broke down and listed a couple of things and will do one more tomorrow. I figured I best keep in practice. haha
I mainly stopped listing to go on vacation and just didn't get the bug to do some more until after turkey day. I really ought to go out and take stock of what I have and maybe find that item that might sell at this time of year. I think my main problem is the bahumbug syndrome kicking my lazy azz. Yes I atribute my lack of wanting to sell to my laziness no, no, I take that back, I think it is combination of having been sick then going on vacation and just not getting back to my old self, hum sounds like laziness. LOL

Two observations:

I do not buy much on eBay anymore. But the few items I bid on that are really unusual in the fields I collect are selling higher and higher every time I try for one. "Unique" is a word that is over used on eBay but some of these really are. The only time I win one now is when I take a deep breath and bid WAAAY more than I ever did.

We are not selling on eBay at the moment but have some items in an online antique mall. There are small but steady sales each month. Do not sell enough to be statistically significant so I make no claims BUT the last few weeks the sales have doubled then quadrupled over the usual number.

I agree with Photo in what's selling. It's my unusual stuff that is selling and for higher prices. Now it's not the junk but the nice items that ARE unusual that are selling. I am glad

Been selling since 1999, and the Winter Solstice Holiday period is always one of the best times of the year. My hypothesis: This time of year people are in a shopping/buying/giving frame of mind, for themselves as well as for others. Plus, they have time off from work, which means more time to play on the computer.

That being said, last week was terrible sales-wise. According to the news, people were spending even more time than usual looking for bargains in stores, which means less time on ebay. I expect ebay activity will pick up this week, though, and see it happening already with my auctions.
