Hi, all: I posted on eBay's technical issues board and got one reply to my question below. Does anyone here have any other ideas for me, or am I really stuck buying two of these danged DVDs? (Our museum just needed one!) Here's my Q&A from that board; the answer came from someone with low feedback, so I'm thinking there may be another answer I haven't thought of:
Odd problem re Buy It Now

A few days ago I attempted to buy a DVD through Buy It Now. After clicking to buy it, I kept getting a message about a certificate that I needed to enable--except that I wasn't able to do what it was asking!
So I backed out of the sale, trying to retract my bid, and an eBay message told me there was no record of my bidding on my item. So far so good.
I found another identical DVD, different seller, and managed to buy his DVD through Buy It Now.
However, the original seller thinks I've bought his DVD, and isn't answering my e-mails to him.
And in my Feedback to be Left, the original "sale" is there. I have a 100% feedback record and sure don't want a neg over this problem. Any suggestions for what I might do? ~Adele
And here's one answer (no others were posted):

Looks like you bought 2, a few minutes apart. It really doesn't matter about the certificate situation.
You can contact one of the sellers--see if they'll let you out of the deal. Otherwise, you have to pay for 2 DVDs.

Roadsmith, contact Livehelp on ebay home page. There are so many system bugs right now. They probably won't do anything for you , but it might cause a bug report to be filed.
The certificate problem was just another new feature to improve sell though on ebay ;0

Thanks, I'll take your advice. Verrrry frustrating. Don't we all just want to go to eBay headquarters with a mob, chanting "Stop fixing things that aren't broken!" Period.

if you contact the seller they may be helpful. if they are there is a way for the seller to get his fees back thru the unpaid process.
of course if they are going to stonewall you, just pay for it and move on.

I tried to get LiveHelp today but the plug-ins I needed didn't connect or something, so I've given up on this. I've paid with PayPal and calling it a day. As it turns out, our museum wanted one copy (a film shot in our mountain town of Idyllwild CA from 1915--Blind Husbands), and a dear older friend of ours has wanted one for a while, so we're giving the second one to him.

Only thing is your situation is not new at all. It needs to be fixed. When I list multiple items, utilizing the dutch system, I get many double bids because of Ebay's faulty system. In your case, you will have to decide what you want to do. Either buy both, or risk a negative from one or the other seller.

I don't usually come to these boards and NEVER respond. BUT you might try offering to refund the seller fees, plus a little extra.
