I need to refund a payment but I don't have any money in my paypal account. (Thanks you very much ebay!!)
I tried to transfer funds to my bank account associated with paypal but I found out the bank closed my account because there was no actively in last 3 months?? I got the bank to reopen it but it's going to be Wednesday after midnight before I can draw on the funds. Even then it's going to be an echeck to my customer and he won't have his funds for 4 or 5 days.
My credit card information had expired with paypal so I updated it but I don't see how to make that the source for the funds to be refunded.
My computer crashed yesterday so I'm having to use an old computer and slow dial up so I can't really search paypal to find the information I need.
Can I use my credit card funds for a refund from paypal - if so how do I do that. I don't want to take a chance of it going back to my bank as that may jepordize my status with paypal.

The easiest and quickest way to do this is to have a friend or family member send an instant payment into your paypal account. Allow for the fees to be deducted and then give them the cash or check to cover it all, and let them use their credit card to make a goods -- other payment.

I don't believe PP will allow you to make a credit card refund if your account is empty. You can always call and find out, can't you?

Just a suggestion!

you can use your credit card to send payment to your bidder.
If he complains he has not received his refund ,then you complain you have not received the goods from him!

birgittaw is right. Find someone who will pay you. (Or failing that, sell something to one of us.)

If my business PP account runs low, I just move cash over from my personal PP account, then "refund" the payment when the business account is flush again. So I don't pay any fees to get the use of the money.

Good suggestion to add a personal account if you have not. My sister and I have a PayPal account for the business we share. I also have a personal account and I move my share of the money into it when needed and can tranfer in when I need to pay her. I don't list or sell enough to make the limit a problem.

Works fine for us.

Send a check. There is no written policy that a payment, made to you by a buyer, who used PayPal, has to be refunded to that buyer, by using PayPal.

A refund is a refund. Contact the buyer and inform them that you are sending refund by regular mail.

Or, if you feel you must refund immediately, refund by Western Union.

Thanks everybody.
I have a few items ending tonight and 2 with bids so I hope they will paypal me and I'll get his refund out.
I have 2 friends that have paypal(no family members) and one has no money either and the other just changed her cell number. I had her new number on my other computer.
When this is all over - I'll be setting up another paypal account - just in case.
At this point he can just wait if needed. I have bigger problems than his refund.
Back to my computer mess.

I think a key point is to always have a business cash float or emergency fund to cover such unforeseen eventualities. Many a business has failed for lack of crisis planning... my 2.4 cents (tax included)

agitprop - I never said I didn't have the funds. The problem was getting them into my paypal to do the refund.
I finally got in touch with my friend with the paypal account and she is going to send me the money so that's taken care of.

I agree with kozersky. Send them a postal money order by mail. They will have their refund in few days.
