I know this may be elementary to most of you . I really do not know with absolute conviction the correct square to check when shipping international.
I always check-Other.
Several people have told me it should be Commercial Sample. I do not see why- I do not sell samples.
Anyway, just want to know if I am correct. I mail international package almost daily .
Thanks in advance

ya know I wonder that myself. I use to put gift then read all these board postings and started putting other. LOL I too don't like that word sample sounds totally out in left field for a used item. I do mark the package with if it is an old item used what ever. Someone in UK asked me to be sure and indicate used on the item it helps in their customs. So I do that but check other.
Would also like others response to see what yall think. (Texas jargon)

My postal clerk told me to check "Other". I have a feeling that the customs charges on "Commercial Samples" may be different. To me that's saying that you sell specifically for resale use. I do note that the item is "used" in the description area.

I check "other," on advice of the p.o. folks, and then (when appropriate) describe as "used gizmo" or whatever it is.

100% sure answer is if your selling on ebay you use the "Other" box.
The Gift box would be checked when someone sends something to someone overseas as a "gift", where they did not pay for it. Like mom sending a box of cookies to their son overseas.
Documents would be used when someone or a business sends just that, documents to another person or business overseas.
Commercial samples box is only checked if it is just that a commercial sample. If you check this box you are also required to fill in box's (7) HS tariff number and (8) Country of origin of goods. I do have to use this box myself from time to time. I send product samples to companies in Germany and this is the box I check for those shipments.
Returned goods is also just as it sounds, returned goods. If you purchased something from someone overseas and it needed to be returned for whatever reason (broken, wrong size, etc.) you would check this box.
The "Other" box covers everything else including ebay stuff.

Thanks, Mike. I have been doing it that way for years but I had several people say it should "commercial sample" ????????
I also have been chastised by customers for not marking "gift." I explain that is illegal. I have them shoot back emails listing all their "good" sellers that do it.
I simply reply "I'll not lie to you or for you".

Deur, I am glad you asked. That one always stumped me too. I check "other" but have been waiting for the day when the postal police show up on my doorstep.

So, what happens if you mark an eBay item as "gift"
It may be illegal, but what could they do about & who are they it & how would they know.
I always put down the price I paid for the item & have never been questioned. I don't think the PO cares.

My favorite p.o. clerk told me to mark it "gift." I don't. Interesting, though, huh.

Thanks everyone, I will continue marking "other" I was almost 100% sure it was correct . But ya know how doubt can creep in, when ya hear from several different sources that another path is correct.
Yep, even those who SHOULD know such as PO Clerks-give out the wrong info.
LOL, as the old cliche goes - I'm not perfect, I once erred. I thought I may be wrong but it turned out I was right, my mistake.(hehe)
