What about this new Buyer Appreciation Service? I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad. On the one hand an initial contact for bidders might encourage more bids on other items but on the other hand it might be a pain in the butt to be receiving emails everytime a buyer makes a bid.
A courtesy email might be a good thing when someone bids on one of your items however I don't want to kill people with emails that they just might get fed up with.
As this begins in 2-3 weeks let's hear the opinions.
Thanks in advance!!

Was there an announcement about this? Didn't see it. What does "appreciation" have to do with the plans?

Click on the vendio announcements at the top right of this screen to see the announcement.
Not sure about anyone else but I don't want to be spamed by the seller before I even win something. I will not be using this service.
Sign up now for Vendio's New FREE Buyer Appreciation Service
X00497
Build customer relationships from the first bid with Vendio's FREE Buyer Appreciation service. Soon you will be able to send personalized e-mails to your bidders automatically, enabling you to thank bidders much like a brick & mortar business owner greets and thanks customers entering his/her store. And like the business owner, you'll be able to use the first point of contact to promote other items you have for sale, as well as offer incentives to encourage buyers to follow through with purchases.
Learn more about Vendio's Buyer Appreciation service.
Inspire buyer trust and drive more sales through cross promotion
# "Thank You" e-mails are sent automatically to bidders to inspire trust and showcase your other items on eBay.
# The automatic e-mails sent to your buyers can promote additional buying opportunities, such as discounts on combined shipping.
Reduce your unpaid bidder rate
# Validate the bidder's contact information by watching for "bounced" e-mails early.
Grow your "opt-in" mailing list exponentially
# Each bidder can easily "opt-in" to your mailing list so you can contact interested shoppers later with special offers or promotions.
Vendio Buyer Appreciation will be available in 2-3 weeks, although you can register now and set up your automated messages. Vendio Buyer Appreciation is absolutely free, so register today!
Happy Selling,
The Vendio Team

Huh. Seems the Vendio team is taking lessons from the marketing geniuses on eBay for dumb new ideas. If I got that kind of email when I bid, I would cancel my bid, trust me.

Most of the vd emails go into my customers spam files. Or they are kicked back to my spam file.

Well, I must be the contrarion on this board. I signed up yesterday.
I think it's a good idea. The only problem I can see is the spam blockers, and they are a way of life now.

Where have you all seen this? Where is the announcement? How do you sign up? I feel left out, dissed by eBay--yet again.

I will not be signing up. Don't think that over-emailing bidders is really the best idea;
more of a double edged sword, at best.
But I do have an open mind about it...plan to keep an eye out for comments from those who do sign up and see how it goes.
Also, I rarely sign up for any new programs until the boards indicate that initial glitches have been worked out.

I do think it would cause more aggravation than
benefit

For those that seem lost and can't find info about it please REREAD my first post. It's the third one on this page. It is the copy of the Vendio announcement and yes this is a Vendio service not a ebay service.

I'm sure. It's bad.
Vendio should call it the Buyer Exploitation Service.
I get the parallel between someone bidding on your auction and someone walking into your brick and mortar store. However, if someone comes into your store, odds are you don't say, "Good afternoon, nice to see you. In addition to whatever you came in to look at, I have a lovely set of Ginzu knives, a Popeil Pocket Fisherman (only used once to catch pocket fish), and a mint condition Veg-O-Matic. Have you seen it? It slices! It dices!"
You don't say that because odds are your prospect will turn tail and leave.
Which is just what they'll do when they get "appreciation" email from you.
Dumb move, Vendio.

Reading the announcement, finally, I don't see "buyer" mentioned nearly as much as "bidder"; not "high bidder," just "bidder," and I don't think it's clear whether everyone who's bidding on my items will get spam from me, or just the high bidders. In that case, we'll have the e-mail addresses of all those folks, which is something I don't believe eBay would like to see happen. Tell me if I've misread the announcement.

Read the FAQ. It's clear. Everyone who bids will get the spam.

No, you won't, not unless they choose to allow you to have it.
Read the FAQ.

Using this feature to "showcase your other items on Ebay" is unsolicited commercial email, AKA Spam. Clearly against Ebay rules. I wonder how many VD'rs will get warned, suspended, or have their listings cancelled before Vendio gets wise to the fact that they stepped in it this time?

I was wondering when the effects of Vendio getting together with Andale would begin to show up. This is the kind of crap Andale would do.
I don't consider working with a spammer to be a plus.

I can see the problems with your bidder getting an email everytime they bid on an item getting mad and going els where. Say the bidder is really wanting the item gets bid agains 15 times and everyting they bid get another email? UH------ I don't think so. Now if they had a service to check emails to see if valid or not that would be ok but you know they don't have that without sending email for bounce back.
Sounded good until I thought about it for a second. LOL

irked,
I would assume that they have something in the code to prevent duplicate emails going out. At least on an item by item basis.

Don't know which stores you go to, but most around here do say hello. When was the last time you went to a restaruant and didn't get greeted? Personally, I think it's a great idea. Send an e-mail thanking them for the bid and put in a "if there is anything I can do for you" note will increase sales.

Hmmmm...taking irked's posting a level further...if the multiple bidder receives multiple emails from Vendio's address, the bidder may just hit the block sender / Spam button. Then if they win the auction, we would really have a problem sending out the Vendio post-sale checkout emails.
It could happen.

Following up on the comments about multiple bids on one item, I just found this on the Vendio Board:
"Bidders will only receive ONE e-mail per item, even if they bid multiple times on that item."
But again, if a bidder is bidding on multiple items....
