Some clarification please...What specifically are the little pins with the single prong on the back called? These have the little pinch-at-the-top piece that goes on the prong to keep it secure. Then small pins with a bar/clasp closure are called what...are THESE the "pin-backs"? Thanks for educating me on this...

Actually I thought pin-backs were the campaign type 'buttons' like "I like Ike" (showing my age). But then I don't know what to call the tie-tack type backs with the single prong and clutch back. I could be all wrong, just putting in 2 cents worth.

I think they can be called tie tacks or lapel pin. Tie tacks will have a chain with a bar attached normally where the lapel pin won't.
The other, I believe, is a pin back as pmelcher stated. Usually like slogan pins or campaign buttons. If they have normal closures and are more decorative - they are scatter pins and usually worn in sets of 2 or more. Like bees or butterflies.
