I think I need a vacation! I am not in a good mood today thanks to unwarranted neg FB, stupid ASAQ's and payments that arrive without any id whatsoever!
I got cash from a French buyer without item id - was able to track it through Vendio email search by looking for ".fr" in the email addie.
Have another cash payment that arrived in a priority envelope - return address has two initials and a street address in Houston TX. Message inside: "Mary- So srry about mail-has never happened before. I am enclosing payment for the postcard". WHAT POSTCARD????? I imagine we had some communication about this payment but I can't figure it out! SHEESH!
Sometimes I think the PP transaction fee is well worth it!

It's amazing to me how fast I forget what I sold last month! Every once in a while I look at some older auctions and think "did I really sell that only 3 weeks ago?" Out of sight, out of mind, for me. Once it's shipped, it could be a year ago or two weeks ago, it's all the same to me. I'll have communications with some buyer and then have to find the e-mails in my "sent" file and have hardly any memory of having sent them.

Have you tried searching searching uncompleted transactions for a buyer in Texas? I know its a hassle, but what else can you do besides sending the cash back.

neglus,
Chuckle, I think most long-time eBay sellers have received cash stuffed in an envelope at least once without a return address or accompanying auction ID. There's nothing worse than selling 20 identical items and getting 16 payments of the same amount, but you can't figure out which four still haven't paid!
However there are a couple of easy solutions.
In my early days (or learning days) as a seller I realized it was best to make all amounts (S&H included) unique within a sales period by discounting them by a few cents, yen or pence so each payment total was different. Makes it so much easier to match up unidentified incoming payments when the buyer's name, auction number or description was missing, illegible, wrong or incomplete.
Good auction tracking software is the other answer. I use a customized FileMaker Pro template that downloads all completed eBay auctions and then I tick off each stage: EOA notice sent, payment received, item despatched, item received, feedback, etc. It even handles multiple currencies and international listings.
