I finally bit the bullet and got a nifty new computer...hopefully, someone can help with this question. I still have (and love) my Sony Mavica so bought the external disc drive and use HP Photosmart Premier to download photos to Vendio. The problem comes when I want to delete the photos AFTER I've downloaded. When still in HP Photosmart, I click on "select all" to delete but can't do it. I have to manually select each one and then delete delete them one by one. I'm not especially computer literate so hope this makes sense. Is there a way to delete the photos all at once and, if so, how? Thanks for any advice.

I understand what you're saying, but can't help with HP software involved.
You could always reformat the disk in your camera to wipe out the pictures.
Congratulations on keeping your Mavica, DIDN'T LET THEM INTIMIDATE YOU INTO SWITCHING.

Find the folder that the images are stored in on your PC. probably C drive/program files/ HP photosmart/ images or something like that. to explore to find the images do this: press keyboard windows logo plus E at same time, it opens explorer window. Or go to My Computer and navigate like that to the HO photosmart floder and look in there for all the images. THEN at top of pane go to View and make sure Thumbnail is selected all images will show up with a thumbnail making it easy to choose which files to delete. Now hold down the CTRL key on keyboard and click each image you want to delete they will highlight = now right click and choose delete. gone to recycle bin just empty and they are gone.

I do not have HPphotosmart on this computer or I would tell you exact path to folder with images.. It is on my laptop but don't have it on right now so just look around in explorer to find right folder. It may store them in My Documents/ My Pictures if all else fails open the software HPphotosmart and find in preferences the dafault image storage folder.

I have HP Photosmart on my computer (a HP Pavilion laptop). I have never used the software before but I thought I would give it a try to see if I could duplicate the problem. I could not.

Let's clarify your problem first. When you "Select All" does it highlight all the picture thumbs in the folder you are in? If it does what happens when you then select delete?

If it is not selecting all of them (highlighting them as selected) when you do the select all you could try this as a work around to sellect more than one picture at a time. Press down and hold the "Ctrl" key, then click with your mouse on each photo you want to sellect. By holding the Ctrl key down it let's you highlight multiple items in a folder. Then release the Ctrl key and try the delete as normal.

Thanks for the help...Yes, when I click "select all", all of the pictures are highlighted. BUT, when I press the "delete" key on my keyboard, nothing happens. I looked for a "delete" function on the Photosmart page but couldn't find one. I'm SURE there's an easier way...As far as I can figure out (I think it will take me a year or two to feel comfortable with all this...I had my original computer since 1995 and was still on Windows 95 w/dial-up...)...As best as I can figure out, the pictures are stored in various places...the main one is "C/Documents $ Settings/H.P_Administrator/My Documents/My Pictures...all most confusing...I'll try some of the suggestions you all were kind enough to provide...Thanks! PS: NO WAY I'm giving up on the Mavica...the cost of the external drive was more than worth the ease of the Mavica!

Don't think you can use the delete key on the keyboard for this. After you have selected the pic's you want to delete click on the "Edit" icon on the top left. Then click "Delete". They should then delete to your recycle bin.

You're right, Mike...the keyboard "delete" didn't do the trick. Next time I do my pics, I'll try the "edit/delete" you suggested. Thanks so much for the help. I'm feeling like I've moved one teensy-tiny step away from computer illiteracy!

You might want to check out all those buttons at the top of programs, not only HP Photosmart. You can find a large number of tools and setting's in these drop down menu's. The only clickable icons they usually put on any program are the most used ones like copy, paste, save, print and so on. All the other features are found in the drop down menu's. Spend a little time exploring the drop down menu's in programs you use and you'll be amazed how much you can do with alot of programs and how easy it can be. It just takes searching sometimes to find the tool or function you want.

Another thing you can do is customize your clickable buttons on most programs. Just right click on the blank area in the toolbar. It will open a drop down menu that should have "Customize" or "Customize Toolbar". Click this and it will let you remove buttons you don't use and add other ones that you would like to have from a list. I have the toolbars customized for almost every program I use. Makes using programs so much faster and easier. I checked HP Photosmart and delete is not one that can be added, bummer. It's still handy. Check other programs you use including Internet explorer or Firefox Mozilla (whichever you use for internet) and customize the toolbars to suit your needs. It can make going online alot more enjoyable.

Mike is right customize your programs toolbars. I did all mine and am always finding more shortcuts so I don't have to go looking.

Glad you got it all figured out, lot of times you can figure out new programs especially since they are all basically about the same in finding all the hidden stuff you just have to explore the programs. If you can learn one then the others should come more easily to you. Most are same principal in doing things and just a matter of finding right tools where they are and if you can customize your toolbars. But a lot of image programs use different names for same function it is just a matter of playing around to see what a tool does. Also there are a lot of sites out there that have how tos on most programs some better than others with imagery etc to walk you through steps. Especially image manipulation programs.

OH if you delete a lot of things be sure to empty your recycle bin ever now and then, when you find you no longer will need them for absolutely certain.

When you delete several files using explorer, hold down the shift key when you press delete. They will delete completely instead of going to the recycle bin.

You all are SOOO smart and knowledgeable...thanks so much for tips and help. Right now, I'm content with figuring out the bare essentials but will spend some time to see what miraculous things are possible! I didn't realize how much of a relic my 1995-era computer was until now! And I can't imagine why ANYONE is still on dial-up!

Wow, that's a old computer. You might want to call the Smithsonian Institute in DC and see if they want it for one of their relic display's. In modern computer terms and spec's it's a offical antique. LOL

I know what you mean, Mike. I told the guy from the Geek Squad I expected my new computer to last as long as my old one. He sort of snarled and said "The average life span of a computer is 3 years and then it's obsolete!" He thought I was kidding but frankly, I can't affort to buy a new one evry 3 years! I was reluctant to switch from dial-up to high speed because I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing the e-mail address...then common sense reared it's ugly head and said..."thousands of people do this every day"...SOOOOO glad I did it too! I'm finding that it takes me about 1/4 the time to do auctions now...GREAT! Thanks again to all who helped me on this problem...
