In the first image they are sitting is a plastic gem holder that is one inch in diameter, to give you an idea of the size. The metal, although it looks like gold is probably not because it just doesn't seem to have the weight and the sapphires seem to be faux also. These seem like they are parts to other pieces of jewelry, kind of like cabochons, to be set in rings or earrings but the word 'cabochon' refers to a cut and polished stone without facets, not a jewelry part like these. These are old, not new, from a jewelry lot, vintage 1920's to 40's. So I have no idea what exactly to call these. What sort of a BIN price would you put on something like this?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this item.
I have all sorts of weird, strange, neato things like this and now that I am gearing up to open an Ebay store I will list them. Someone here said in another thread that they have hundreds of items sitting around their house and they may as well sit in a store with a price on them, Good advice, I thought.

I don't think these are for earrings as there is nothing on the back that suggests they ere attached to either a clip-on or pierced finding.
They could be for covering buttons.
Does it look like they were attached to something else? Maybe on the sides of it.

I believe these to be temporary mounts designed to show the stones off in a hypothetical mounting. Usually mounts like these are used by the stone cutter to pitch their wares to the jewelry manufacturer. they are rarely seen outside of the trade.

Pi, the center stones are cabochon even if they are not stone. It refers to the shape. I would say you have faux turquoise and blue Sapphire rhinestones. I've seen older jewelry pieces such as these from old stock " parts" houses.
They would have been purchased for use in creating earrings, brooches, cloak pins, shoe clips, etc.

This is going to sound strange but does anyone remember back in the 1950's early 60's when you got coke bottle tops and took the corks out and then stuffed the cork back in from under your shirt so that you wore them as badges? These pieces make me think of that and maybe they had a piece that you used to attach them to something like the coke or pop lids. Yes I know stupid, but just a thought.

Geeze loueeze Irked, wouldn't doing that hurt your ears or something with these items. Yeah right, stupid. I remember the Coke cork badges from when I was a kid but I admit that I had forgotten all about them until you mentioned them. Thanks for the memory.

So I guess I will call these something like; Salesman's Sapphire and Turquoise Display Samples Vintage 1920's
I still don't know for sure that the sapphires are faux and I supposed I should have a jeweler take a look at them first.
