Could someone please explain to me why it is that if you receive a neg feedback the percentage drops but when you receive the same amount of positive the percentage stays the same.

I received a negative and the percentage dropped - I have since received over 50 positives but the percentage never rises again.

How is this possible???

Do the math. If you have 100 feedback and receive a negative, your feedback drops to 100/101= 99.0% If you then receive a positive, your score= 101/102= 99.0%

Yes it takes more to rais it than to lower it. and takes forever Depending on number of feedbacks you have already..

I remember awhile back someone posted a link to a feedback calculator - it figured out how many positives one would need to get back to 100 %. Does anyone have the URL?

Neglus, that's a really interesting calculator site.

I currently have 99.8% feedback, and it says I'll need 2365 new unique positives to get up to 99.9%.

If I want a perfect 100%, I need a perfect run of 14,365 happy people with no complaints. I try hard to please buyers, but that kind of LUCK is pretty unlikely.

I'm not sure how useful it is to realize that my feedback will almost certainly only go DOWN as time passes!

Okay - want to see something depressing? (not that we need it, of couse, but knowledge is power...)

If you have a 99.9% positive feedback now with 2 negatives - and you want to raise it to 100% - you will need a total of 3998 positive feedback to counter those negatives.

Now, if you get another negative, just hope that you have more than around 2,000 positives to maintain that 99.9% feedback rating. Get a 4th neg and you'll need about 600 more positives to bring you back to 99.9%.

Isn't math wonderful? Wouldn't have been able to calculate it though without that handy calculator...

It's not that hard to figure manually.

1/1000 = 99.90%
1/2000 = 99.95%

eBay uses one decimal place in the percentage, so in order for your score to round up to 100%, you must hit the 99.95% point.

In other words, to maintain a perfect score, you must have AT LEAST 2000 positives for every single negative.

Are people beginning to see why I have stated for years that feedback is meaningless? And worrying about it is a waste of precious time, not to mention psychic energy?

Anyone who's obsessed with their feedback needs to get a life. You won't find IT on eBay.

I know you know this, Wayne, but it's actually worse than you say:

If you have a 99.9% positive feedback now with 2 negatives - and you want to raise it to 100% - you will need a total of 3998 positive feedback to counter those negatives.

You will need a total of 3998 unique positive feedbacks to counter those negatives.

For most people that is well nigh impossible.

The only way to counter this is to aggressively push Mutual Feedback Withdrawal. I was recently bribed by a seller into removing the neg I'd left for him. It cost him close to 50 bucks. I tried to talk some sense into him, but no.

Actually, you can never get to 100% although it will show as 100%. If you carry the figure out to an infitesible figuire it will be 99.00000001%
