Well, I did it. I opted out of EE. My sales have increased two fold since doing so. To date, according to the eBay Stores Board tally, over 160 store owners have opted out and most (if not close to all) have reported an increase in sales. eBay can call it what they want, but I think the evidence is there: If you want to increase your sales, opt out of eBay Express.

Express - it's just another one of eBay's f-ups.

Cheryl:

My sales have truly TANKED ever since my items began showing in EE...

From your reading, does anybody have a theory as to why this might be so?

Doesn't make any sense to Ralphie & MOI...

Tom - most think that there is a "bug" in the search but no one seems to be able to pin point what it is.

I opted out of Express and had a surge of sales and then sales went FLAT. I opted back in last Thursday and had some sales, and then it went FLAT again and then had sales again...results VERY inconclusive!

I think there is a US site-wide search problem since the "RollBack"(removal of store items from search) but can't prove it except by looking at my sales reports from last year to this. Actually, I think something has been wrong with search since September and was corrected briefly when stores were included in Search and then went bad again when they rolled back the Search to remove store results.

Not sure it has anything to do with it, but September (end of August) was when ebay introduced "Search Expansion" - my sales have not behaved normally (except during the brief SIS period) ever since.

I agree that the search is the problem. When I would search for my items in Express, sometimes they'd show. Most of the time they didn't. Even when I typed in my item title exactly as I had when I listed the item, it didn't show.

Even now, sometimes my items show in a search and sometimes they don't. I'm really very tired of paying eBay and not getting any exposure. Call me paranoid, but I'm beginning to think eBay had this all planned. I come to that conclusion because even though a lot of sellers are telling them there is a problem, they (eBay) keep denying it.

The search problem is not just store items. I receive watch notices on a few hard-to-find items and often when I search for them I can not find them. The only way I find them is by clicking the link in the watch notice.

I have also noticed that when I do a specific item search by seller, search will return nothing even though I can find the item if I display all of their listings.

Now, that is seriously screwed up!

I expect the biggest problem with express is to be newbie buyers bottom feeding on low prices items and expecting combined shipping eventhough all of their items are from different sellers.

Hi Cheryl,
did we need to change something in our preference to get in. I have not done anything to my preferences since they launched Express.

Go into your preferences. You can opt out or in from there.

Ryan and family are doing great. He's walking and talking again and we couldn't be more thrilled. He's still without hair (poor guy) and a bit pudgy from the chemo. Melissa got back together with Ryan's father and they are renting to own a home in Parma. She's back to work and she got the okay for Ryan to go into daycare.

Opting in or out of Express is rather easy. You can only do it once every 7 days. I suggest opting out and seeing how it goes for 7 days. If you don't see a difference, opt back in.

Yes, thanks, Cheryl! I just checked and *somehow* I was opted in to Ebay Express. Hmmm. Gremlins?

Cheryl,

Glad to hear Ryan is doing well. I still think about him and his family. Hope the good news continues.

Mom & Dad getting back together is a big plus for little Ryan.
That is such good news.

OK - I thought blaming eBay Express on search problems was bogus 'voo-doo' thinking. I opted out 2 days ago after hearing listings were 'reindexed' for Express. My store sales have improved. Might be coincidence but I definitely saw no benefit with inclusion in Express.

I had to talk ole LARD-BUTT into doing it for me! It's so counter-intuitive for inclusion in EE to reduce sales that I couldn't bring myself to TURN IT OFF!

So, I bribed FAT-BOY into doing it for me -- had to promise to tune in "Meet the Press" on Sunday before he would agree to put paws-to-keyboard! Probably the only 1-dog Tim Russert Fan Club in da USofA!

Now we shall see...

I have been reading this on the Store Boards too HOWEVER here's my situation

As I am registered on EBay.ca we were not allowed to be included in Express although we list only on EBay.com.
Our Store sales are also down so can the US Express be affecting sales all over .com?

It sure looks like it...rats...sure wish they would cancel it. I could not understand why they would want to be in competition against themselves anyway!

They had said they were giving it a "trial run" in the US and if succesful they would extend to everyone else so it looks as though you were used as guinea pigs.

Has anyone had Express Sales?

Someone on the stores board said they are also testing a version on Ebay Germany. And, over there they are charging the 3 cents per listing (sound familiar...maybe the end of stores) and 12% FVF!

I have to hope that both tests fail miserably as there is absolutely nothing in EE that I can see as a benefit to the majority of us.

Since opting out, my sales have skyrocketed! It's rare that I go from no sales in my store to many, many sales. A lot of my store items are now selling and to new customers so I can't credit repeat customers.

12% FVF? eBay can kiss my arse on that one! If they want to start charging that, then they'd better fix the system they've stuck us with.

Yes, mike, something is going on. Don't try to get eBay to admit that, though. According to them, our sales going up after we've opted out is simply coincidence. Funny, "coincidence" is happening to a lot of store owners.
