I have a small antique store with a friend. We have one phone line and our internet service is dial-up. Is there a software that will alert us to get off line when a phone call comes through? Please don't say AOL because we can't afford it. Thank you.

Get DSL. You can surf away and the regular phone will work perfectly, all on one line. The next cheapest method is a second line, which is what many businesses have. You can dedicate the second line to fax and computer and use the first as your regular business line. Make sure the second line has an unlisted number, and set it up as a residential line, not as a business line.

How about this. It's for dial up users to receive calls, see who's calling while on line.
Sounds like just what your looking for.
Check around for prices, I've seen it from 35.00 to 60.00.
Also don't forget to check Google to see if anyone is offering a coupon for shopping with them, free shipping, etc.

I used to use Pagoo when I had a dial-up line, but it has been years. Don't know if their service is still good or not. I used to love it and it used to be about $40 a year.
I also used to have a small antique business and know that you can not afford much overhead, however, please realize that one missed call might cost you more than a years worth of DSL. Get the DSL and leave your business phone line open for business. It just is not worth the risk to miss a business phone call.
Think of the DSL as an investment in your business. It is not a liability. Not having it is.

You didn't mention who your ISP was, but if it's AOL, you can get DSL free. All dial up users can switch to DSL at no increase in their monthly rates. I'm holding off for awhile because the local provider (SBC) recently purchased AT&T and changed their name, as well as a lot of their technical personnel, and basically the inmates are running the asylum locally. Once they select a chief, and everyone finishes their on the job training and correspondence courses, I will be switching over.

Since you have dial up check your local phone company for something similar to Internet Call Manager. I live in Cincinnati and Cinti Bell has ICM for $4.00 per month billed on your regular phone bill. With ICM you see the caller and can choose to answer - ignore - or send to voice mail. Hope this helps.

Give me $20.00, I paid $40.00....Emerson makes it. It does what you want with dial up. I have DSL now....Don't need the box...

That's correct Stone. You people are so nice back there, it's easy to screw you blind. OTOH, AT&T feels lucky to get even $12.99 out of us tightwads here in California.
