The 2006 hurricane season has arrived a few days early. The first name of the series for the 2006 hurricane season has been assigned. Tropical storm Aletta formed off the coast of Mexico this morning. Fortunately, it's over here on the Pacific side, so there is no threat to the Gulf Coast. It's about 100 miles S.E. of Alcapulco, and should mainly affect the Mexican Riveria. The ocean waters off the coast of California are too cold to support is so there should be no problem here either. Ironically, this came up rather suddenly, and caught the NWS by surprise. The conditions in the Gulf and the Atlantic are much more favorable for development, and there are a couple of systems there that are being watched closely.

Hey, Sparkz, is it cold and windy up there? Today is a nasty holiday weekend day, for sure--chilly, foggy, windy. All outdoor cookouts have been canceled, people are cranky, etc.

You better believe it's been windy and cool here. The system causing it has moved out of Northern Calif. so the winds should start to die down tomorrow. Looks like mid 80's for Monday and shooting back up to the mid 90's on Wednesday. I'm going to fire up the barbeque tomorrow afternoon. Hope the wind is not too strong. Don't want to set the neighbor's house on fire.

Hard to feel sorry for the people in New Orleans when they re-elect the moron who cause much of the problems their in the first place. No, I don't wish another hurricane on them, but you can bet if another hits, the donations going that way will be much lower than the first time around.

Stone...After I made the first post, I found information that the low pressure system that Aletta developed from is one that had been watched closely for over a week, and it was expected to originally develop into a tropical deperssion in the Gulf of Mexico and possibly threaten Texas or Louisiana. Instead, it crossed over and exploded in the Pacific. Looks kind of like a warning shot.
