It looks like I now have a need to open up an Ebay store but I have some questions that I thought i'd run past the resident experts here first.
I will probably start out at the lowest level of store but will I start being cherged the monthly amount from the day that I start it up or can I choose to start it at a latter date so/as to give myself some time to build/write everything that will appear in my store?
Am I correct in assuming from reading about the stores that listing fees are only 2 cents per listing but then are the FVF fees higher than a normal auction format listing??
Do you use your Ebay id as your store name or do you pick another name for your store, like say for instance, Pi Sells Stuff (not my Ebay id) or some other catchy type name, not that that's catchy, gitchy, or cool or anything?
I read something about listing in 300 catagories. Is that 300 catagories that you list all your store items in, all at the same time and in all the 300 or does it just mean that you are allowed to list in 300 catagories for all your items with seperate catagories that total to 300??
I read something about getting 5 pages and I am assuming these will each have links from my main page but they are supposed to be for telling/describing either my items or to tell about my store, myself or what my store is all about. Is that correct??
If you have a store, is the Ebay picture services different from regular auction format without a store, like as in do I get storage space included with the monthly fee and will I be charged the extra 15 cents per picture after the first one?
I know that I may be showing some ignorance by not knowing these things but hey what can I say, when it comes to the stores on Ebay i'm really just kinda a newbie but I want to thank you for any help and advice you can give me.
1. You are charged the minute you opt into the stores. You will be charged on your next billing cycle.
2. Listing fees are 2 cents, 1 cent for gallery and 8% FVF.
3. You can choose your store name. It does not have to be your eBay ID.
4. You get 300 categories total. You can break them into subcategories.
5. The picture service is the same for your ads. The best solution is to get a domain name and someone to host it. With GoDaddy I pay $3.99/mo and I believe I get 50 gig or so of space (not sure anymore). At any rate, it's far more than I'll ever use. I have my domain name redirect to my eBay store. I store all my photos on my domain.
I'll find out from GoDaddy what the actual space allotment is.

never had any problem whatsoever with images hosted at go daddy showing up. as best i can tell, they have an approximately 99.9999 etc. up-time - much better than eBay functions in general
you would be smart to host your own pictures. eBay's compression really sucks. (take it from one who knows, i'm gradually replacing all my old sucky eBay images with much better ones that go daddy hosts for me.) plus, if you host your own images, you will never get nickel and dimed to death by eBay, VD or anyone else for your images.
if you create an auction/store template or hire someone to do it for you, you will be able to put as many pictures as you want in your listings without paying anyone a dime. (other than the approx. 3.99/mo. or so that you would be paying go daddy).

Ditto what the others said. The 300 categories are the number of catagories and subcategories you can specify for your store. You can also choose to just show the eBay standard categories

I wish I had known that!! My Categories are a mess. If you don't pick you own categories, won't everything show up in Other?
