So, I was bored and decided to checkout the Bidz.com link over on the side. Notice a painting get lots of action at the end of it's cycle but thought it was strange that the bid increase was never more than $1. Checked out the bid history and.... well... I ain't buying it. Bid history shows 89 bids, all made by the same two people, all in increments of $1.00 and each made exactly 5 seconds apart.
If they are going to shill their own fake auctions the least they could do wis put a randomizer on the bid placement.

Would the 5 seconds between each bid possibly be due to both of them using a automated bidding service? Seems like a plausible cause. Just a thought.

89 bids... no - besides - it's an "auto extend" type auction. Each time someone places a bid the time is extended 54 econds so there would have been no way to set up the autobidding.

I agree somewhat with Mike on this one, except it sounds more like bidz.com software doing it. I know when I was using bidway or whatever they are calling themselve now days, if you had multiple bids, it would show and many small bids like your example.
For instance, bidder #1 bids $5.00, bidder #2 bid $30.00 and bidder #3 bid $40.00. The software would have a bidding war between bidder #2 and bidder #3 at one dollar segments, switching between the two until it got to the $31.00 mark where bidder #3 out bid #2. It sounds like bidz.com is using a similar program.
