Ralphie - I need to know a good source for dog biscuits. Not those different colored ones as they make one of my dogs barf and I don't mean bark! They like the pretzel kind from Pet Smart but would like to buy in larger quantities. Any ideas, my friend???

I don't do doggie biscuts but all dogs love Old West Baa Baa Q's or Moo Moo Q's (cheaper) from Petsmart. They are doggy cocaine!

Also good for them are Bully sticks but they are out of sight price wise. They are not rawhide but Bull you know what's. Starts with a P.

glassgrl - I always thought they were pig you-know-whats! Who ever thought of letting their dog chew on that part of the anatomy?

I also heard that Sams Club or WalMart sells chicken or turkey strips, like turkey jerkey, and dogs love 'em!

PetEdge.com (formerly New England Serum Co.) offers bulk pricing on dog biscuits & treats of all sorts including the whole assortment of bovine parts left after everything "fit for human consumption" is used. Dogs love that stuff.

FWIW, cow ears have far less fat than pig ears, if your dogs are into the ear-treats.

I bought some of those chicken strips. They were like letting a dog chew on a pork bone. VERY splintery. I threw the rest away after I opened them up.

Baa Baa Q's and Moo Moo Q's are very low fat and completely natural.

Rawhide chews and Greenies are horrible. Greenies have caused several deaths due to the fact that they are indegestible.

Rump Nuggets Le Burglaire are especially favored by Rottweilers and German Shepards.

Ralphie likes the ITTY BITTY BONES from THREE DOGS BAKERY:

I keep these in my pocket all the time for "educational" purposes...

Once or twice a week, he gets a good old fashioned MILK-BONE to keep his pearly-whites...pearly-white!

Greenies are not the real problem, it was the owners who let the dog have one that was too big for its size. They are several different ones to match a dogs weight.

My dog gets one every night but the good thing is she will not eat it without me nearby. If I leave after giving it to her she waits until I get back to start munching again.

Or make your own...

Oatmeal Cheese Dog Biscuits/Treats

1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 1/2 cup hot water or meat juices*
*I use leftover BOXED (less sodium) beef broth plus water to make recipe amount
4 oz (1 cup) grated cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup margarine
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/4 tablespoon salt
1 cups cornmeal
3 cups whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 300 F.

In large bowl pour hot water over oatmeal and margerine: let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in powdered milk, grated cheese, salt and egg. Add cornmeal and wheat germ. Mix well. Add flour, 1/3 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Knead 3 or 4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Pat or roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness.

Cut into bit-size biscuits and place on a greased baking sheet.

Bake for 1 hour at 300 degrees. Turn off heat and leave in oven for 1 1/2 hours or longer.

Makes approximately 2 1/4 pounds.
Store in an airtight container.

Each of my dogs has its "chores", and their reward is praise and a treat. These can be made to suit your dog's size and altered to suit their tastes. No preservatives! You choose the ingredients. I will sometimes use ground leftover cooked meat (chicken, beef, etc.) in place of the cheese.

Tip: Freeze your cheese slightly before grating. Makes the job a lot easier.
