Not something I'd normally sell and I really don't know where to begin. I think it's a planter and I was steered in the direction of Blue Ridge but then it didn't seem right.
Any thoughts would be apprieciated

THANKS
Tim

EC, give us a bottom shot. This could be anything from US to Portugal or even Japan to China.

Leaning towards US made, but need to see a good detail of the bottom, even if its plain.

I'm at home now and cant get a pic of the bottom till Tommorrow.
It is plain except a hole in the center (drainage?) There is no maker stamp or letters or nothing. Just white with no glaze.

Personally, I vote for a Hen and not a rooster.

/Neglus I agree with you about it being a hen.

EC (and others) the reason why a pic of the bottom is so critical is because.... even if it is plain, we can identify the piece by mold marks, material texture (white clay, red clay, smooth, rough, etc...), details such a a water ring or even the size and style of the drain hole. There does not have to be printing on the bottom for the bottom to have "a signature", if you catch my drift.

With all the cheap imports coming in for companies such as the Dollar Tree, the price difference you will get on your Blue Ridge or Hand painted Portuguese Hen will depend greatly upon very clear picts with lots of details, even details of a "plain" bottom.

Tune in next week for "How to Identify Modern Repro Glass Manufactured from Original Classic Glass Maker Molds" also know as "The Glass that Killed the Depression Collectors Market"

Could this be one of the soap pad holders from the 1950's?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Lady wins the prize!

My vote is for MIJ, Made in Japan. Its a cutie for a kitchen rooster collector, provided that is not a chip I see right behind the head.

Tim, thanks for the extra pics, it assures us of the suspected age and weight of the piece. I can now definetly say that I do not think this came from the Dollar Tree

This piece is HUGE for a soap pad holder ???
I think I'm still going with planter.

I was always sure it wasn't from the dollar tree. I literally dug it out of a basement from an estate that the city had boarded up several years ago. The house had it's entire contents. Lady died and no one to claim it it I guess? They sold it to me for back taxes.

Well anyways, so Made in Japan most likely eh?

Thanks everyone!

Tim, you didn't mention dimensions. It could easily be a planter, but the style is very typical of soap/scrub pad holders. A Soap holder is usually about 4 to 5 inches across the base.

If it is a bigger than that, then yes, go with planter.

11 1/2 long tallest point is (hens head) 8 inches but the opening part is 5 inches tall

It would hold alot of soap pads

Thanks again all!

Is it just me or does anybody else think this kind of has a Gaudy Dutch look to it?
